in years time we will look at this album the same way we do kid A or yeezus but for folk music. a sound that’s still sounds unlike anything in music rn and some of justins best songwriting. every song hits and there’s absolutely no filter. this album doesn’t get talked about much (and with how stacked 2016 was i could see why) but this deserves to be named one of the most innovative albums of the past 10 years and justins best album
also the fact that this and a seat at the table came out in roughly the same week man 2016 was something else in terms of music
Agree with the 2016 thing, album definitely did not get the proper love it deserved because of how stacked that year was

it was the best album released in 2016
great album
doesnt feel like its really as celebrated as his first two?
maybe its because the follow up was more of an extension of the sound rather than the change in direction this was? to the point where people maybe got tired of that sound

i feel like i,i was the culmination of all of his previous sounds quite like MBDTF was to a lesser extent obviously

thats an interesting way to put it but i never really listened to it like 22, i will listen to it again tomorrow
under-discussed album for sure but i like i,i more
22, a million is kinda one of those amazing albums which is great by itself and got critical acclaim but people dont really revisit. i still go back to hey, ma and u (man like) from i,i a lot

He wasnt really out there anymore like that for 22 as he was for the others
Also i think his name titles hurt it a lot, same with UU by kendrick & that white album by Gambino

Yea i feel like it barely started catching on with listeners about 1-2 years ago. people were pretty put off by it
This never really clicked for me, I gotta give this another chance soon
It took like a year for me to warm up to it. I still dont revisit it often but its a good album def worth another listen

I remember liking it when it released but it def got lost in my Blonde obsession and everything else that dropped that fall n I never came back to it
Was just listening to skinny love lol
Gonna listen to this on the way home
I’m listening to Panic at the disco now
Great post
Bon Iver, Bon Iver is still my favorite but this is another masterpiece for sure.
Also one of the best live shows ever.
One of my fav albums of all time.
Interesting fact:Justin met BJ Burton (producer who helped to mold BI folktronica sound since this album) during work on Yeezus.
They way the band managed to translate this album live is so astonishing btw. You would think it should be hard to convey songs like 10 deathbreast or 21 moon water live yet they managed to get things going right from the start and advanced arrangements even more over years they've been touring this record.
