It's pretty good and the cinematography is great. At least almost Wellesian I argue in a dreamlike sense.
Glad you enjoyed it
Cinematography was insane.
Lady Macbeth, Macbeth, and the three witches all had stellar performances,
The biggest surprise of the movie was Alex Hassell
After watching him in Bebop I did not think he would do good in this, but I was wrong.
Wasn’t a huge fan of Corey Hawkins acting tbh
His lil kid pulled me out of the movie lmao

He was fine, he wasn’t in the movie much
I was more confused why they even gave the wife and kids a scene cause they treat as if we should be invested in it for later on
Maybe they could’ve been setup earlier, but that would change the play around

Their inclusion was okay imo. I'd argue its more for Macduffs character than it is for them to actually be well rounded characters. It sets up the motivation for the final showdown
Tryna figure which of the A24 films look better, this or The Lighthouse
This. Easily.

This looks very crisp
The Lighthouse was shot on old lenses from the 1930s compared to this which was shot on an Arri Alexa to make it look more contemporary

Lighthouse literally looked like late 19th century photos

what does Guy Maddin use to conjure such a legit silent film atmosphere all the time?
Lighthouse literally looked like late 19th century photos
And William Blake etchings
This. Easily.
this was pretty sterile compared to The Lighthouse dense mise en scene to be honest
The German expressionism sets and shadowplay were amazing but alot easier to pull off than what Eggers did I imagine

Almost everything (dunno about that cauldron floor scene) in this I've seen done in older stuff but the lighthouse felt like something entirely different
He drew? Thought he was a poet
haven't you seen Ralph Fiennes in Red Dragon? Trying harness the power of a particularly disturbing Blake painting (which came to him in a waking dream as his visions often did)
He was also a legendary poet that influenced the Doors, Patti, Dylan etc
Damn last time I read Macbeth was for a 6th grade play should I catch up a lil before watching?
