If I enjoy painter but I'm a painter who enjoys painting but I suck at it, I've essentially wasted all my hours being a s*** painter. Were those hours considered a waste? No because we view art as the GOLD standard of creativity when half the time it is like someone took 5 colors, threw them on a canvas, and called it art.

It can be detrimental if youre one of those guys who spend hours upon hours a day playing MMOs or other overly engrossing games like that, I would know cause I was like that with RuneScape for a while. I think thats what he was trying to get at. But simply enjoying games isnt detrimental at all and is no different from watching a good movie or reading a good book.

Anything in excess is bad, but if it doesnt harm you or anyone else, anything in moderation is perfectly good, especially if you get happiness and enjoyment

that's stupid you could apply this to anything you do for enjoyment

someone's hobby can be knitting and that could be looked at the same way

I mean this can technically be applied to literally any form of entertainment. Because it’s there for a exactly that, to entertain.

And it’s kind of funny coming from a UFC/sports guy. What benefit is there to making sure you watch every UFC fight? What benefit is there to watching all of your teams’ games? Absolutely nothing other than entertainment, especially when you ain’t a fighter/athlete yourself.

you have a point, but gaming is different because there's always something new. there's always a new console or a new game to keep you engaged. there are way more people sitting on their ass playing video games 8-10 hours a day than knitting.

people make excuses like 'you can make money playing video games', but let's be honest, only a fraction of a percent of people do. just like only a fraction of people that play basketball go pro.

i have a cousin who is 2 years removed from getting his bachelors in computer engineering and he's working at hobby lobby part-time cause he can't get a job in his degree. dude's just playing LoL and animal crossing when he comes home from work. no social skills, doesn't listen to advice, is extra sensitive. there's tons of young adults just like him and its sad to see.

obviously there's benefits to gaming. i used to play csgo with some friends and there were skills i learned that have translated to real-life situations. teamwork, managing egos, leadership skills, etc..., but most people don't get those things out of gaming. playing a single player game where u're just following a path and going from checkpoint go checkpoint is just a brainless dopamine fix

How much time has Joe wasted getting high and buying into crackpot conspiracy theories?

If it was that black and white that anything that makes you ‘happy’ is automatically a good use of time then we might aswell just start doing heroine and coke

I love Joe but if you spend hours playing video games and still have your life together what exactly is the problem

  • pure thoughts
