Are you saying this about AOC specifically? Cause she should be praised and spoken of for what's she's achieved, done & said (especially at her age). And although I agree Politics shouldn't have to be involved/portrayed in popular media the way it has been the past few decades she doesn't seem like her passion or significance can be contributed to being "quirky and hip"

just in general although yes i think it applies to her. i very much dislike her brand of politics. i see it as highly narcissistic and toxic. i do not disagree with all of her policies but I do not see her furthering a real rightful cause honestly, i think even for the policies i agree with her on she's just further contributing to the problems of our political machine. not to knock on people who like her because I get it, she's a young left wing minority politician, but i strongly believe politicians shouldn't have a cult of personality in a political system like ours which gives massive amounts of immunity and leighway to politicians over actual voters
Also she was saying some real s*** about this toxic masculinity directly associated with politicians that are currently serving "us" right now. Like why does saying you have a wife, sister, daughter etc. equate to you automatically having respect for women

I agree but aren't a lot of your points applicable to a lot of the politicians we have serving in the House, Senate & White House? Also out of curiosity how is she contributing to our country's problems in politics? She's not the only person that can be considered responsible for the way this country views its leaders & I doubt if she is using her popularity/policies as an ulterior motive it would've become very evident already
she has everything
good policies
no lobby money
probs best politician in utilising social media
we stan

oh yeah don't get me wrong, i'm only singling her out because she's the thread topic. she isn't the worst and there are lots of others too in the house and senate. i don't think she's like, evil, or anything, and she's not a profiteer or opportunist in the way corporate politicians are.
I just think that she contributes to issues because while yes she does have progressive policy, at the end of the day she's still a card carrying democrat, but she hides it with this weird subtextual narcissism and more outward willingness to challenge vs others who just fumble when they get called out on things. I dislike how she mixes liberal and left policy too. She's supposedly a left politician but imo she's closer to the politics of like, Vox Media or Vice than she really is "left", and I really think a lot of her policies are just either contrarian or unhelpful but because of her political labeling she can kinda spin it however she wants. As someone who calls herself a socialist - a very taboo term in US politics - she has a responsibility to actually act in a way which defines that label; not just for her and her personal beliefs, but for future politicians. However, I just don't see it - for as much as she talks about things one way or another, she really just comes off to me like a liberal wtih slightly more progressive economics willing to stand against her party sometimes. it feels inconsistent and damaging to the supposed cause to me.

mfs acting like they stand for something just by marrying and reproducing
