People let him slide on alot of problematic s*** because he has the image of a woke artist but in recent years and really throughout his career Its been a mixed bag.

Quality wise he's fairly consistent imo and outright brilliant at time obviously but to answer the OP yes people let him slide cause he Spike Lee alot.

His treatment of women in particular is incredibly low and use of rape to this day is digusting but it's allowed because its a "Spike Lee joint"

The fact someone itt said the only black director they feel comfortable trashing is Tyler Perry has alot of reasons too especially in comparison to Spike but thats a convo for a different thread

do the right thing is better than everything Tarantino ever did but the quality of ouatih blows 90% of spike's filmography out of the water.

Both these dudes don't have the impact on the game that Spike has. They need to update their portfolio before coming close to touching Spike.
