On paper, I’m not against it. What worries is me how the money will be spent as materialism is a problem in the black community.

Should reparations go directly to the people? Should government allocate it to schools and neighborhoods? Will reparations help create better opportunities for the community?

don't care about that s*** really and i'm black. Black people should try to build their community and countries on their own, asking white people for reparations won't do s*** in the long term.

the poster who made a thread about the tulsa race massacre on here was prolly the greatest piece of info i’ve ever gotten about relating subjects, not sure how you can hear that and be against some form of reparations

I don’t know if younger black folks really understand the purpose of reparations in the economical sense rather than as revenge. Which in its own right can partly be justified given the horrible treatment of their ancestors, but taking on revenge against descendants of slave owners does call for a gray area.

I’m for reparations, but it has to be done perfectly which I don’t think anyone knows how to do on a National scale.

We really jus need to focus on our own. Reparations not gonna happen. When it should’ve/would’ve happened, Abe got assassinated.

No. We are rightfully owed for the injustices committed against us. I’m not banking on it but everyone knows the government needs to run a check. White people are opposed because they don’t want the playing field leveled.

yeah it doesn’t seem possible to happen the way it would need to, i literally have no clue how a correct way would look and i’ve never heard one

    If so why

I'm down for redistributing capital w/ UBI or government land handouts, they got enough land to give 40 acres to every citizen and enough money to give the lowest economic class a chance at class mobility.

Honestly if the government just gives money to people for being black you're gonna get a lot of angry broke ass white dudes who see their richer black friends getting free land and money. You can't just give people money based on their colour imo, but you can definitely put in place social programs to help those who where affected by slavery and racism both directly and indirectly.

Plus, to make current generations pay for the actions of their ancestors is pretty s***ty.

If post secondary education where free, land where given out to all citizens at birth and you had a UBI, you wouldn't need reparations. You can either get revenge for history or build a better future, but not both.

Do they deserve reparations, probably. Is anyone in power ever going to give it to them? Nope. You gotta find a compromise that works in everyone's favor.

That’s not the point of reparations and the point I made in my above post.

You can’t claim reparations if it did not economically affect you. African Americans made up the majority of slavery in America which is why they’re the only race deserving of any reparations. Native Americans were also held as slaves briefly but they have kept parts of their land.

Because White slave owners benefited from slavery and are far ahead in terms of generational wealth in which descendants still benefit from to this day. The point of reparations is to bridge the wealth gap between African Americans and their slave-owner counterparts as much as possible

If the money is spent on materialistic items then it will bring them back to square one because white people run/own the corporations that sell said materialism

White slave owns got reparations from releasing their slaves. They got the equivalency of $10k of today's currency per each slave freed.

I'm tired of seeing goofy ass ppl trying to tell us how to spend our own inheritance

We can do whatever TF we want to do with it. It's OUR inheritance

I think they need to spend money on making all public schools equal, and teach financial literacy to the youth.

if we just gave every black person a set amount of money, to be honest most of it would end up going back to the owners of corporations (who are old white males generally), and the money would dissapear. if people don't know how to save/spend money wisely, you could give them a million and they would probably still end up broke (happens with lottery winners and washed up celebrities)

But they lost most of their land, native Americans are absolutely deserving seeing as how they has thousands of acres taken from them
