Tonight’s drop signifies the closing of 2020 summer. What better way than to introduce to many a legendary Bay Area act that created a lot of noise and a substantial amount of music in the late 70’s early 80’s

Bill Summers was the bandleader of his aptly named “Summers heat. But before he was founder of this energetic ensemble, he was a Bay Area musician on the come up extremely knowledgeable on all things percussion. Summers is an original former member of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters. You know the tune Butterfly? That’s him in the background accenting with Herbie on various percussion. (Later he would do various percussion work for Quincy on Roots & The Color Purple. In addition to Quincy he has done sessions with many other's including Womack,Norman Connors,Sheila E.

Summers Heat is a master class in afro latin jazz, funk, soul, r&b, gospel even african drumming interludes. Even touched on a bit of electro R&B in the tail end. An arsenal of talented vocalists, guitarist, bassist, drummers and the brilliant arrangements of Bill Summers.

Im proud to introduce to most this band where most of their catalog is out of print. This is a selection of 8 lp’s & I hope you like most of this or some of this.

It is quite clear that in their time that they were active, they shared the bill with MANY Soul-R&B-Funk act’s of the day.

There are a lot of track’s I can reference but you get the idea when I present a band to you and if we take a closer look, these are some of the baddest musician’s in the land in this band.
One interesting note is the blend of male & female lead vocalists.

Sunday’s are about appreciation of black music movements. Every week I present a band or an artist in their important place of recognition,

Unfortunately there are consequences for a wider platform for the way I operate , that’s when the copyright police come for you I saw that with another blog & they ended that one quick. 😳

I intentionally give out music to a smaller group of people & im happy with that. The mixture of in print & out of print suits me & I will continue until whenever. I do understand why it isn’t accepted but I just refuse to not include the music I talk about. I’ve never been a samples person. Especially if it is something that takes a bit of time to look for, 😒

That’s a brief summary of why I don’t go wider Audience. A small price to pay for the positivity, joy & spirit that is provided by this music. That’s why I don’t push for it. It really doesn’t phase me because I do other things. Much more on the way and as we get in more grey areas you will see the post titles be vaguer with the more popular artists I will cover. Never poke the bear with a sharp spear just tip toe around their cave. 😎
