not looking spend a lot just want decent entry level drive to store music + document files

  • Aug 9, 2020

get a s***ty Western Digital Elements joint if that's the case but mainly i use Lacie rugged externals.

  • Aug 9, 2020

not sure how much space you need but you can get a 500gb ssd for $48 and throw it in a $8 case

portable hard drives always die in my experience after a few years if you use it weekly, an ssd will usually last forever

  • by no means an expert but the transcend rugged ones are worth having a look at

  • Aug 9, 2020

    Lacie

Im mad that external ssds still haven't gone down in price even though they've been a thing for a minute now

  • Aug 10, 2020

    Any.

I mean, are you looking for speed? Portability? Thunderbolt? You can use any of them at this point. Just easier to reco if there’s something that you’re looking for.

I picked up 2 of these on sale at BestBuy last year during their post-Christmas markdowns. One of the best and easiest smaller portable HDs I've owned.

I have a few larger externals (the ones that require their own power banks), but for day-to-day storage transfers, I haven't found anything better for the size/price. Of course there's higher-end stuff (LaCie, etc...), but if you're just getting into these things, a 1-2TB WD My Passport is the way to go imo.

And if you've got the extra money to spend, you might as well go ahead and grab the 5TB since it's on sale on Amazon for $100 (usually $150)... That amount of storage should last you a LONNNNNNG time, especially if you're just using it for music

I believe that link bring you to the product with it set at 5TB. I think the 1TB and 2TB options are like $55-$65
