For me personally as a black person I love the slave motif but specifically the idea of Black Jesus having a crown of cotton.
The crown of thorns on Jesus head has it's obvious meanings and black people often try to claim Jesus as black so it's clever to make his crown be something that represents a dark period in our history.
He literally put a new meaning on the crown of thorns which I feel like is way more then just slapping slave iconography on things.
It's actually a clever idea along with the other works of art he put in the same ideas.
