A discussion I’m constantly having with my mom because she’s always bringing it up and upset about it is a lot of traditional churches are dying. I tell her that’s mostly her generation and older to blame for that aggressively forcing church/religion and f***ing up peoples mental health with a lot of fear mongering. Younger people just aren’t interested or reject religion flat out. It’s even more surreal considering I’m in the south where people are usually highly religious/conservative. A lot of the older generations that held the church together are dying out. Honestly covid sped up that process. A lot of churches that have always been around are just gone now because the members who still go aren’t enough to keep the lights on. Not saying religion or Christianity itself is dying. But just people going to church it seems. A lot of people also just realize they don’t need to go to church every Sunday and then can be spiritual from home.

i come from a very religious family but me and my siblings don't really have the urge to go to church on sundays or pray to God every night and morning

but i try to live as good as i can most of the time

and thank God for everything i can

I feel this. Kinda I’m the same shoes. Church ruined me as a kid and I didn’t like how it was forced on me. But I’m still a very spiritual person. Life experiences have me where I can never deny a god in my corner. I pray just about every night still. But I definitely can’t ever see myself walking back into a church.

also my mom came back to the US just because churches weren't closed, as apposed to the country she was staying at, where churches were closed during covid

Another Century? Sure but a few decades? You underestimate how many people are still extremely religious conservative and not too mention immigrants who are also highly religious.

exactly the same for me. was forced since i was little to go to church but the last time i went to church was back when i used to live with my parents
since i moved out i haven't been to church a single time

In my experiences growing up the church will try to tell you to tithe money even when you don’t have it and God will bless you and you’ll be punished if you don’t. All while simultaneously declining people seeking help from the church financially.

that wasn't happening in my church (catholic), it was only voluntary to fund the church's cleaning and electricity bills (at least that's what they claimed) but there was no forcing. but i never put any money into it

old sect churches like Catholicism or Orthodox are never like that

those are the two biggest religions tho i doubt they will ever die out. muslims are some of the most religious people i've ever met and they are doing an amazing job with passing it on to the younger generations.

well in westernised countries Christianity is dying especially the catholic church due to many reasons, but its doing well overseas. However if those countries ever became super westernised countries then im sure we will see religion became less part of their society also
