Are we pass the age of caring if a RAPPER doesn’t write his own lyrics? Seems like we have been for a while because of the new generation.

Also, is there any discussions where you would take into account if someone wrote their own lyrics or not to quantify someone’s skill?

    Baby keem wrote DAMN

  • not really

  • Yeah it matters for sure but you know everybody who’s somebody works with a team when they make music. People confuse collaboration with ghostwriting.

9/10 no ghostwriting doesn't really matter imo. It's only for the S-Tier lyricists ie Lupe, Ka, Roc Marciano who approach their craft as a ronin.

Depends on what you’re aiming to achieve with your art

  • Dec 27, 2021

Only when the rapper flagrantly sounds like another recognizable artist/writer

  • Dec 27, 2021

It does not, but IF said person has ghostwriters they're automaticly removed from the "Goat list" for me.

  • Dec 27, 2021

Most of these rappers use writers.

Rappers have historically ghostwritten for each other. Ice Cube for Eazy-E, Big Daddy Kane for Biz Markie, Biggie for… the point is we use ghostwriting to “invalidate” someone’s claim to dominance over hip hop. If most of your lyrics are about how you run hip hop, you can’t have a ghostwriter and still be taken seriously.

Most rappers have ghostwriters (Kanye, Drake etc.)

That being said, I think some rappers would be way better off having writers like Travis or Uzi

Yeah only the underground niggas that market their skill really matter. Every mainstream rapper gets a bar or 2 from someone or just ideas for songs. Music is a creative process and we get classics from both sides

  • Only if a Rapper acts like they are or get proclaimed as one of the best rappers. If they open about it, it doesn't bother me. And other genres, I really don't care if they got help with lyrics

It matters in determining how much talent from the music is actually coming from the person who holds the stage name
