Flygon, but there are pretty convincing theories that its name got swapped with Salamence last minute

Salamence the big blue dragon with red wings right from the Bagon fam What are the theories?

Bagon -> Shellgon -> Flygon woulda made a lot more sense wouldn't it?

& Trapinch -> Vibrava -> Salamence sounds better too

still the same mons, just names swapped

relevant to this thread, another theory is that Dragonite and Gyarados also had their sprites switched, but as a counter, the Magikarp->Gyarados line is based on a Chinese legend about a carp that jumps over a waterfall and becomes a dragon, and Gyarados is based on a Chinese dragon, whereas Dragonite is based on a European dragon. & the Dratini line is based on a myth about a serpent that held onto a pearl for years then became a dragon. so it kinda makes sense, but i still think the correlation to those legends was an afterthought where they were like "actually let's swap those sprites because it makes more sense this way"

then there's also theories about links between Pkmn

one is that ancient Aerodactyl evolved (actual evolution, not Pkmn evolution) into modern Zubat

there's another that the bulb on the back of the Bulbasaur line is an Oddish

the one about Cubone being baby Kangaskhan whose mother died

the one about Gengar being Clefable's shadow

there's probably more i'm not remembering but those are the ones from Gen1 i know of
