    I haven’t yet, wbu?

Nope thats why i was asking lmao i read like 1/3 of it i think. Been some time now too and i mostly forgot what happened (which wasnt much anyway). there was so much unnecessary detail (at least at that point it felt like its unnecessary) that i just lost interest completely. I know this is the main criticism for The Goldfinch too (to much (character) detail) but it was so beautifully written and usually i love novels that focus on character development but i felt like The Little Friend fell completly flat in comparsion to The Secret History and The Goldfinch. Usually I force myself to finish books even if I dont enjoy them initially and often times I end up actually liking them, some books just need some time to pick up.

Was acutally hoping you read it and could give me some motivation to either pick it up again and finish it or just throw it away lmao

Keep in mind it’s my first big fantasy novel so I’m not a veteran here

    And I’m so into it

I finished way of kings and am half way through words of radiance. Absolutely loving it!!

I did read the mistborn series before jumping into this, though.

My man!!!! I’m on Oathbringer right now

Words Of Radiance i enjoyed sooooo much more than I thought I would because I didn’t find shallan that interesting but her backstory is crazy

    Also the climax is amazing

I am right there with you. I was worried about words of radiance because shallan was super weak in terms of characters in book 1. I am getting more and more intrigued by her character due to backstory. But I still see myself wishing I was reading a kaladin, dalinar, or adolin chapter instead, haha

Murakami and Beatty fan both are supposed to be coming out with new books (Murakami with a book of short stories in April, Beatty with a novel and anthology sometime soon) so we're gonna be feasting this year

yea Beatty in a league of his own. somebody recommended me The White Boy Shuffle when I was like 14 and it changed the way I viewed books. still one of my favorite novels. The Sellout is amazing too and Slumberland is underrated

you got any book recommendations? recently read Sharks in the Time of Saviors, which I'd definitely recommend for a fan of Beatty and Murakami

Thanks for the recommendation I'm buying a kindle soon so I can stock up on some ebooks and I'm just gonna read and read all year

I have Slumberland on my bookshelf already. White Boy Shuffle was mostly great but there were moments that felt kinda meh. Sellout tho... Damn... Even my dad loved that book. It's so freakn funny.

When it comes to recommendations I probably don't have anything original bc I've started REALLY reading books like 3 or 4 years ago and I just go through "end of the year" lists most of the times trying to catch up

My favorite book is The Stranger by Camus tho I really recommend that one. It has some of that Murakami style when it comes to that cold approach to life. It's also can be amazingly funny...

Some of other books I think are great:

The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen
    Catch-22
and for Murakami fans also The Castle by Franz Kafka

kindle is a game changer. I'm reading more than I've ever read now and couldn't do it without my kindle and the website mobilism

it was cool seeing The Sellout get so much critical acclaim and praise, Beatty deserves it. definitely a special book, can't wait to read what he does next

I read and enjoyed The Stranger and Catch 22 but I'll add The Sympathizer and The Castle to my list

    What's Mobilism about?

What makes it better than just using libgen?

Also... If you don't mind me asking what Kindle do you own?

I'm thinking about buying the Kindle 10 (2019) but I've seen mixed reviews where some say Paperwhite is miles better and it makes the basic one look like s*** and some say it's completely enough and it has all you need and the screen resolution difference is only visible when you read comic books

heard of libgen but never checked it out. I'd say they're about the same. once you register for mobilism you can search and download ebooks as well and they have a good selection in different formats. helps to have more than one site in case you can't find something. I use Calibre a lot to convert epub to mobi too

I've owned both kindles, the older one and the paperwhite that I won in a raffle. I actually prefer the older one's screen (more book like) but the benefit of the paperwhite is its screen is back-lit, so you can read at night or in the dark without using a lamp. don't read comic books so not sure about that, but in no way would I say the paperwhite makes the older Kindle look like s***. if you don't mind reading with a lamp, I'd say go with the older one
