I highly highly highly disagree. Tierra Whack isn't "popular" and she makes some of the absolute best music out.
So that example alone shatters your argument. Next.
Thread blew up
Most people are trash. But that don't mean they can't get better. Finding a good artist is rare nowadays, but honestly a lot of the responsibility is due to the consumer and how they consume music, its pretty whack nowadays
abhi//dijon have one of the best EP's of the '00's. Ask any 3 random people if they've ever heard of them, guarantee they all say no.
If you love music then you'll do the extensive digging & the magic that comes along with falling down rabbit holes. I just got out of a Omar Apollo jam session.. dude is cold but widely unknown. Finding music is one of the most beautiful aspects about music & you made it seem like a chore. You can tell who really loves this s*** on here man..

Hard to tell on here, I give people the benefit of the doubt & bring honest discourse to the table at all times.. lol
The truth is somewhere in the middle. I’m a big fan of “underground” rap (>50k IG followers?). I know most of them will never make it in the mainstream, and some of the artists aren’t talented outside of their niche in music, but it hits harder than any mainstream music can idk why
no
You and the nigga who originally posted this are dumb as f***.
Artists who are popular were at one time unpopular. Prime example is me posting Baby and Stunna fall 18 right before or right after Blank Blank dropped.
No one cared until the Wal Mart s*** really caught on/the constant fights and most importantly Suge. Now the nigga literally the biggest or at least Top 5 biggest new artists in the world.
Y’all d*** ride what the algorithm/machine/tastemakers tell you to and it’s the reason why everyone kinda sounds the same at the most visible level because the actual people haven’t randomly picked someone since OF. People gotta make hella connections to even be on the average consumers radar as a new artist.
Mfs really saying niggas music is wack because they haven’t made enough white friends at the label to where u can look popping
The only way to get on is connections
whether that’s industry connections or street connections to where Thug or whoever will just hand u visibility off the strength
Or have your city undeniably on fire. Which even still takes connections locally.
