Hot take but idgaf, it's crazy how Halloween 2018 does all the things that Blade Runner 2 didn't do as far as being a sequel.
H2018 knows exactly what it is, and what it's following up - it returns us to this world and a couple of these characters, and makes a modern slasher that still feels true to the spirit and artistry of the og.
BR2 however makes the fatal mistake of not understanding the original film imo - the original BR is an infinitely approachable classic, you don't have to worry about its artistry or its message to enjoy it. All the deeper stuff is there for you beneath the surface if you want to study it.
The sequel however wants so badly to be taken seriously as a piece of art, and in doing so becomes a massive drag imo.
In closing, H18>BR2. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
The recent one was pretty awful
Bring back Rob Zombie
First Zombie Halloween was great second one was god awful

Second one is far better but I saw the directors cut
First one has a great first half then kinda gets mid but it’s still far beyond this dogshit ass new one

Yeah Zombie's H2 absolutely blows his first one out of the water - feels like he doesn't give a f***, he's just going for broke and not giving a s*** what anyone thinks.
The scene where Dourif finds his daughter dead f***s me up every time, that performance is staggering stuff.

That was probably the only time ever in this franchise I’ve actually felt shook by the death of someone.
The hospital scene is one of my favorite horror setpieces oat too

What ruined it for me was Dr. Loomis, in the first one Michael is his best friend after the years of therapy. And even though Michael is f***ed he can see that he’s still just a damaged child and wants to save him from himself.
Fast forward to the second film he’s profiting off Michael going around promoting a book about michael being pure evil

Well Loomis is shown in the first film to mostly want to try to understand him, I wouldn’t say he’s like “best friends” with him. He’s just trying to use him, which in the first movie involves protecting him.

I respect this take but I highly disagree.
The original BR is s classic off of influence, and aesthetic. But it tries to be a film noir without any mystery.
Even Harrison Ford said “I was a detective that didn’t do any detective” in reference to his role as Deckard.
All the subtext is there for you to dig into in the OG Blade Runner because there’s no plot to get in the way of the subtext.
Everything you need to know about the plot of Blade Runner 1 is in the the first 20 mins of the film, so with that in mind all there is to take in the other elements of the film.
Even all the replicants outside of Roy Batty & Rachel don’t have deep characterization.

Alright just making sure
I put it on same lvl as the og movie, don’t @ me.
That scene when he kills that kid on the gates and the way it is revealed is not just stunning with the shot and the music but also a key as it’s from the granddaughter POV and that’s when she knows the shape is real, I love it.
I’m @ing u for this horrible take.
Halloween 1978 is leagues ahead of 2018.
Only Halloweens that are actually good imo are the OG, h2 H20, RZ'S (second one is great and underrated) and 2018.
4 and 6 are guilty pleasures.
2018 is easily top 4 of the franchise.
I love RZ's but can't see how anyone can like those and think the 2018 one was trash. Literally makes no sense

78 and 2018 make a good double feature.
Plus I find the 2018’s teens more likable than H20 even though both are great in their own way

I bought at Target a collectors edition thing that's the OG and 2018 for like 12 bucks on bluray
It's the 25th anniversary edition of the OG in it too.

*35th anniversary edition m8, been fifteen years since it turned 25
The white horse s*** in H2 is what ruined it for me tbh. Thought it was dumb and unnecessary to show what was going on in Michael's head

RZ has a great aesthetic & good ideas but sometimes he needs to pull it back a bit lol
