Title pretty much. Just design-wise, they put out some super hard stuff, and some super terrible stuff.
I thought about getting this shirt.
ctm for the kids tbh.
bought a shirt from them once and immediately regretted it when it got delivered. luckily it was a hyped up shirt so I was able to sell it for like 3x retail lol.

might be the hardest thing they ever made

well, to be fair, they’ve stated from the start that they had opportunities to do “Chinese ” stuff (i.e someone asked them to make chopsticks) and they refused. it’s all built around the aesthetic of counterfeit markets often found in chinatowns, not chinese stuff in general.

Yea they took what bootleg shops in Chinatown were doing, profited off it tenfold all while using the name Chinatown and not properly recognizing or giving back to the OGs. So in short, culture vultures.
Mike himself said since he's white he didn't want to 'cross the line' and make asian products. Which means they knew they were in the wrong and still didn't care to change the name sooner or highlight Asian community causes because they were trying to play it safe. Again, culture vultures.

talking about cultural appropriation while wearing a kith hat
and bro endorsing Andrew Yang when he could've endorsed Art Chang

fung bros so cringe
i kinda liked some of their designs over the years but also I think novelty of flipping a well known brand or image got old fast, especially when you consider they're basically jacking an entire aesthetic in the first place. also they're v corny and talked a big game after months of pressure and then just figured people would forget about the name change lol.
"for kids" is right

you know what a bootleg is? you’re literally saying “they stole an aesthetic/design from another group that stole it, without giving credit to the people that stole it first!” If anything, this gave “bootlegs” more legitimacy.
Cringy brand but I do have the Grateful Dead crocs and tee from that collection. Didn’t really care for the brand I just like the dead and was really into watching hiking docs at the time
i apologize if i’m overgeneralizing, but I just don’t get it. they purposely stayed away from doing anything culturally offensive, and built a brand around making something uncool (bootlegs) into something cool. correct me if i’m wrong, but the merchandise sold in bootleg markets in chinatowns are regarded as counterfeit goods that nobody really wants. Chinatown market spun that in a positive direction.
