Keep hearing this but I am not to sure what to think. All I know is that he downplayed it when it initially hit the US but a lot of health officials and leaders did the same to a greater degree even. He also put travel restrictions on China (and maybe other countries not sure) which he came under fire for but it was later said by Fauci that this move prevented a lot of cases. As far as spikes in deaths and cases how much of that is because of him and how much of that is because of states deciding when/what to reopen and deciding when to put out mask mandates? I'm not really invested in either candidate as of now. I'm not really sure who I am going to vote for but this is a criticism that keeps getting brought up and I am not really sure what to think of it.
he should of put more stricter travel restriction, like completely banned all travel out or in the US
Should not have downplayed the virus saying it will go away
Should have mandated masks country wide and made it a federal law
Should have made states keep schools closed
Etc
Should have done a complete shutdown ! He can not handle the people of his country because he is weak
This is a pretty good summation of his ineptitude.
All of this and more considering the timeline in the article stops at May and we're in September...

Yeah I tried to find a more recent one but couldn't.

the mask thing tho
like i still wear my mask no matter what
but it's been 3 months and I've heard that the numbers have not gone down at all in my state
if anything i think they might have actually gone up
It just would have really helped if he would have been a leader and tried to unify the nation behind the cause of stopping this thing in it's tracks instead of playing politics and trying to blame the democrats for being in charge of cities with dense populations.
All it would have taken was him selling some MAGA masks and lensing the fight against covid as an "american duty" and his followers would have eaten it up.

that's true they probably would have
i also don't really like how he took so long to wear a mask
it's almost like he thought wearing a mask would make it look really bad so he didn't
but it actually was really bad

id argue cause there are a lot of people not taking it serious due to the lack of federal guidance
And younger people, like 18-34 are still going out and partying, coincidentally they are the highest group contracting the virus now (at least in my state)
we can wear masks at the store all we want, but if we aren’t playing it safe with friends and on large groups, then it will do little to help if just one person in the group has contracted it

how would stop that from happening tho.
setting a curfew again?
The man and his team thought he could take the blame off of himself if he made the states mandate their own restrictions. So that way during an election year he could blame the democratic areas, which are coincidentally areas with higher population density, for not taking care of themselves.

Idk, I’m not too much in agreement with curfews but I think if the president took it more seriously, kept things shut down, and mandated masks, citizens would hopefully take it more seriously as well
There’s no right answer, but there sure is a better way to go about things then our leadership has done

masks are already mandated in 34 states
masks are already mandated in 34 states
True but there are more states than that. It should have been done at a federal level as opposed to up to the states
It shouldn't be up to the states (at least all of it)
the federal government exists precisely to handle things like this
if we had a real month to two month long shutdown and all came back slowly together and stayed safe after it'd look so f***ing different now
but instead the federal government didnt even try to cooperate with all the states so every place shut down at different times, half of them were starting to open back up when their neighboring states are only starting to shut down. of course nobodys gonna follow the "recommendation" of not traveling inter-state so it's all already pointless
i know hindsight is 20/20. It would have been far from perfect under hillary, or any other president for that matter. But they would have at least listened to scientists and doctors from the start. We're too far gone now
edit: it's also so pathetic that the only thing trump and his people bring up that he did well was stopping travel. literally any president with a semi-functioning brain would have done that. I get that some democrats attacked him over it -- they were being f***ing idiots too then. So he stopped travel though. OK. The virus was still here by then. Not saying THAT is his fault, but it's here, and it spreads, and you have to do something about it still.

its a bit too late to stop the spread. This quasi-econ openness is force it to keep going up

so far he has
and so much more tbh, both in ways more direct (downplaying the virus and encouraging people to f***ing drink chloroquine) and indirect (encouraging schools to reopen in the midst of the pandemic and signed a payroll tax cut deferral that you're gonna owe anyway at the end of the year as part of a "recovery")
i struggle to think of anything he's done good in this crisis
Should have done a complete shutdown ! He can not handle the people of his country because he is weak

imo he shouldve publicly worn masks earlier to encourage people to do it. He shouldve been very clear with it.
He didn't fully f*** up tho. Him blocking traffic from china probably is the reason why the USA only got hit way later. Also luckily he didn't pull a pelosi and said "everyone needs to go to chinatown".
