  • My brother passed away due to COVID and he has thousands of GBs of data stored in his iPhone, iCloud and Google Account. We don't have his passwords and his apple devices and accounts have biometric locks like Face scan or whatever it's called. It's a very hard time and my nephew and niece's childhood's photos are locked in that too. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out please.

Maybe print out a picture of your brother鈥檚 face and try to unlock Face ID using that?

  • Keep out

  • I don't know a solution but RIP to your brother 馃檹馃従

Hey man, I went through a similar situation. Sorry about your loss. It was a Samsung in our case and unfortunately we couldn't get it opened in time. I'm not sure if the phone has Touch ID but if it does you could try asking the funeral home for a mold of your relatives finger. That way you could open it with some Plasticine. If it's Face ID the only way would probably be by holding it up to your relatives face. I'm not sure if that would be an option for you.

  • My condolences. Some ideas:

    • Check for password leaks on breachdirectory.tk He might have been using the same one for many accounts.

    • If you're able to access his PC you can check if he has saved password on his Google Chrome.

My condolonces. Not sure about the others, but Apple can reset the iCloud password if you have a death certificate of some kind. If he was using iCloud most if not all of his photos etc will be on there

It looks like Google has somethnig similair too:

You should be able to get into most accounts by producing a death certificate

  • Thanks to everyone for the responses. I will see if these work or not.

Unfortunately it isn't, in our culture the bodies are cremated on a pyre and face ID wouldn't work anyways as his face was unrecognizable mere minutes after he passed away.

I checked the Apple website and it says they can transfer ownership of the device through that but they will factory reset the phone if it's password encrypted.

I was looking into that but the issue is that due to lockdown most stores are closed here and we don't even have official apple stores here but just certified retailers who sell apple stuff, so I'm not sure whom do I have to approach for this process.

The site just had solutions for basic queries and due to the lockdown most of their support options were limited so I couldn't really contact them. I tried calling but their service hours were over so I'll try again soon.

Both forms of authentication will not work if phone was turned off then back on.

Only way is to get the password.

And that is encrypted by s*** that Apple won't even touch...

    Gonna be honest

You鈥檙e not getting into that phone without the password

iCloud and Google you may be able to. Try and find receipts and if you can show apple the death certificate and proof of purchase you may be able to have them reset the password and access that data. Pictures should be backed up so losing the phone won鈥檛 be too much an issue.

  • Apple support is the best, definitely contact them and let them know. Sorry to hear about your brother.

yeah we sorted it out. His wife was in too much shock so wasn't communicating well, she finally got a bit better and remembered she knew the password. She unlocked the device and we got the data. Apple support just gave the same old article we already knew about.

Thanks to everyone for helping out.
