I made a similar thread on ktt1 but back then I was unsure about actually doing it but now I rlly want to leave.

My parents are overbearing to the point that they want me around them 24/7. The only time Im away from them is school and they even told me that they wouldn't put me in school if they had the choice.

They try to make me look a certain way for some sort of image they want to put up, like my dad gets on my ass because I want a certain haircut because it will "make him look bad in front of his customers."
like nigga I don't work for you and if they get mad because of a haircut then that's their f***in problem not mine.

They always base what I do on hypotheticals to the EXTREME, Like if wanted to hang out with a person (Even If they've met their parents or known them for a while) They would assume that their going to take me to do some criminal activity type s*** all because they saw it in a F***IN MOVIE

For context, my parents are from the Caribbean and not all caribbean parents are like this but they try to tell me that's part of their culture to control their kids like this like

Like bro I can't even walk around my neighborhood, even though I live in the most quiet and dusty town in my city.

I can't even discuss college with them because they already want me to go to some bum ass college "because its closer to home" nah mf you just want to control me even more.

Idk how I still have friends because I don't hangout with them outside of school because of my parents.

TLDR: My parents are controlling, Im 18, graduate in 5 months, how do I move out.

Don’t worry about moving out, go to a college semi far away and enjoy the freedom. You’ll still have to come back for breaks but just have to manage that

It's not like their reasonable, everytime I've tried sitting down and talking to them about this, they always give me the ol' "My house, my rules." s***.

    Im already saving money btw.

1st step, communication, then leave if it doesnt work out but u gotta have all this s*** planned out from before.

Its simple, you need income and enough of it for rent, food etc or whatever, that means you need a job. You need to plan all this s*** out and make sure its solid.

If you cant do that, then youre stuck. You gotta accept how things are in order to have a roof over your head.

    Hope things work out.

It’s not worth hanging on. you’re gonna be 24 in a situation you don’t actually want to be in just because u didn’t wanna hurt mommy and daddy. Just leave, they can’t call the police.

The only thing is be ready to not have support. The change from getting overwhelming love to having none at all is probably going to be weird. But once u find ur way of living you’ll be fine. Literally just leave dude

leave home? well like someone said here talk to your parents because as long as your old enough they cant tell you what to do after a certain age, if they dont agree then they will have to learn i had something similar like this growing up too

Start looking at housing options for ur desired school. Make a plan save up ur money. Then come to them with ur plan, tell them u would appreciate their help but are fully capable of doing it by urself. Whatever happens happens. Just do exactly that

finish college, get a job that can support you, get a car and save up to get your own place

make sure beforehand that you aren’t still dependent on them for other s*** though ie wrap everything up before you ditch

My parents weren’t strict like this but I moved out because I couldn’t bring females in their house

Just stack your bread, make a budget once you find a suitable place and buy the essentials before you move out.

  • Dec 28, 2019

ok listen. my name used to be omowhiite, bugattibiebs and slappd maybe you’ll remember my stories like this. if not, i know exactly what you’re going through.

Get a job or two, work your ass off to save up and MOVE TF OUT. I made the mistake of staying when i had 3k saved to moved and wasted it ALL thinking i didn’t need to move because of how they controlled me. I have ptsd and i feel like s*** now. if i would’ve left earlier i woulda been better off.

S***, if you have job corp in your area i’d even try that before trump gets rid of em all. best of luck to you buddy..this s*** is real and i’m sorry you’re going through it.

it’s not about being dumb. parents have the ability to brainwash you and you don’t even realize it. some people do realize but others are blinded like i was. but yes there is a pony where you need to realize it’s time to do everything you can to leave.
