This isn’t even a thread about Tyler necessarily, but goddamn mainstream producers are just boring as f*** now
This beat is weird as hell, yet this song became a cultural phenomenon. Instrumentals don’t have to be cookie cutter if the songwriting is catchy enough. Why can’t new artists realize this and stop hopping on these ybn nahmir soul train ass beats?

right, but you didn’t even mention anything that has to do with Tyler in the op, you just mentioned him in the title & wrote a completely unrelated post as the op lmao

@op about your last sentence it's pretty evident most artists are chasing hits or songs they think can TikTok challenge blow. Pair that with the fact most artists with even remotely experimental instrumentals don't sell well, it's not that surprising. Real music will prevail

    That’s the point
I’m not gon be rude cause u seem kinda slow to pickup on stuff
    And I’m a lil tipsy
anyway Tyler actually makes beats that sound different from the cookie cutter billboard 200 s*** we hear everyday
I feel like this kelis beat is in the same vein of something that Tyler would do but it’s more embraced because it was a different time
    That’s the point

If this song came out today it’d be corny and a meme lol.

ahhhh gotcha, now i see the connection

wasn’t clear from the op lol, seemed more like you meant Tyler was getting on cookie cutter beats, was confusing

There are so many reasons why things are the way they were then and why they are now. It’s a weird take, some artists want more eccentric production but some just want what’s hot in the mainstream and that’s how it’s been forever. The disparity between what’s popular in the mainstream now that’s weird versus before can be attributed to many factors, the game ain’t the same anymore

im addmittedly drunk while making this thread but there’s no way u ho ass niggas turn this into some thing where I just wanted to talk about Tyler
I wanted to talk about more obscure production in mainstream music
And I feel like Tyler is one of the only people pushing for obscure production in mainstream music
Yet he gets pushed to the side every time

so to actually contribute to the thread, i think it’s just that artists are afraid to leave their comfort zones or are too heavily influenced by label people who don’t wanna leave their comfort zones

  • Aug 17, 2021

Tyler has to be likeable. He doesn't seem likeable. He was weird until Wolf, then he got weirder after Cherry Bomb. A 2 album run of normalcy then he took off lol

Tbh this song has never been "cool", it's always been kinda corny and a meme

It's always been kind of a satire to listen to this song

He ain’t getting pushed aside on his own s*** at all, his last two releases went #1. And he does collab with artists he wants to f*** with with his production. It’s more based on the type of rappers that are blowing up now and the audience, it’s radically different from the early 2000s. And plenty of songs with weirder beats are getting made in the underground but that’s not what people want in the mainstream and if they did it’d get meme’d and Tik Tim’s to death where people would get sick of it before appreciating it. Lotta other factors too, rap in a whole different space almost 20 years later
