No conspiracy s***. It just feels like the Democrats have/had zero plan besides remove Trump and they got it.

Now this Administration feels so soulless and empty, and distant. Are they really planning on letting Biden run again in 2024? Or do y’all think this is all a game plan for either Trump or someone else to come into the WH next election?

Biden was always the front runner for the Democrats no matter how hard they pushed Pete, Kamala, and Warren. He received votes off the goodwill Obama left.

v true and you could say the same thing abt how the republican administration is always five minutes away from ushering in Robert Bork's America, full fascism and the handmaid's tale

very convincing just-so stories to get the voters ginned up

Conservatives in general want to keep the status quo and go back to “a time when it was great”, it’s a regressive strategy with no forward thinking to move society forward. To accomplish things as a conservative is to literally tear down the structure of government competence.

Yea both parties are ass but one side at least as some factions of its base trying to improve society as a whole not as individuals

That's contradictory, you can't want to maintain the status quo and move backwards at the same time. Conservatives want the status quo, the people that want to move backwards are called reactionaries.

not speaking to the merits of the ideologies of each party's supporters so much as the way the political process as manifested in the campaigns and governance of the two parties not only reifies the status quo but convinces voters the problem is

    1) their party is too bumbling to get s*** done and
    2) the other party is satisfying their base

when of course if both parties think this neither of them can be true

really both parties are doing exactly what they are trying to, which is running a lot to stay in place

there wasn't as much full-spectrum fearmongering because the war party needed people to support his foreign policy but

    ppl were pressed

and of course the Roberts court was going to destroy Roe

After he won in '04 campaigning on anti-gay marriage, it seemed like social conservatism was cresting and people felt the gays were going to be driven back underground (11 years later, ofc, Obergefell)

And in general, the GOP was as reviled as they always are

if you Google bush+fascism or some derivative of that (bush+dictator, bush+authoritarian, bush+fascist, etc.) on Google and set the date filter to before 2008 you’ll find tons of articles from academia, blogs, & editorials in major news sites accusing him of such lol

Also inversely lots of politicians used the specter of fascism to rally up support for Iraq war and stuff, saying opponents of the war were modern day fascists lol tl;dr accusing the other side of being fascist is a modern American tradition

I've been reading Heavy Radicals and even back then in the 60's/70's, people were calling the USA fascist or on the turning point, whether the US is or not doesnt change the fact the only redemption for the nation is a nuclear holocaust lol

I’ll say to be fair in the 60s the threat of fascism in the US was more legitimate of an accusation due to the known rise of actual open air fascists as well as legit nazis like George Lincoln Rockwell and the insane prevalence of race politics in America, the reactions to the Cold War, and the reactions to the counter-culture movements at the time which were often explicitly violent. In the 60s you legit had covert underground political gangs bombing each other and ideological paramilitaries making cross-nation tours doing public speeches, and it was only like 2 decades after WW2, accusations of fascism were way more understandable even if it’s silly in retrospect

thats kind of why the trump thing was so funny, that they were like OK HE'S FASCIST, AND WE REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME

its crazy though the amount of political violence that was going on back then, like its impossible to think in modern days something similar to the Weathermen or the RAF existing in the western world .

Everyone with ambiguously dangerous views is a nazi but there still exists real nazis who are actual nazis but this does not displace the fact that the others are still nazis, this is the true dialectic of American politics

1968: bill buckley says raising the vietcong flag is offensive in the same way as raising a nazi flag

vidal responds that he's the real crypto-nazi

buckley calls him a "queer" and threatens to sock him

the only thing different if that happened on cable news now is vidal would own the "queer" label and the vietcong flag would be the antifa flag

    I think what sets it apart is violence back then was specifically targeted and meant to achieve political means. It wasn’t random violence; it was targeted at politicians or political land specifically and/or targeted at counter-offensive parties. The difference now is 3-fold IMO;
    A) centralized technology and communication make real threats easy to foil + legit everything is a fed infiltrated operation anyway
    B) everything is just a media-sustained LARP now days (Antifa vs Proud Boys in a Walmart parking lot) and it’s hard to imagine that culture fading
    C) as evidenced by 2020 riots everyone would rather kill each other before even thinking of going anywhere near the sacred cattle that is the actual meaningful points of power because everything is individualistic rather than for a real cause
