    It all seems to be
    1. Very episodic, made for toddlers, comedy centered. (Ex: anything on cartoon network these days)
    2. Maybe serialized, made for adults, comedy centered (Bojack Horseman, Final Space, Big Mouth)

They also usually have a super simple smooth artstyle, especially the 1st type.

There's no action oriented s*** like Samurai Jack or Teen Titans anymore, and definetely nothing that's really serialized like Avatar anymore.

I guess teens just watch anime nowadays because there's really nothing else animated popping over here

Haven’t teens in America been watching anime for years now? Since the 90s at least

  • Oct 16, 2021

I'm not saying they don't have their problems, but you don't see shows that can compare to AOT or MHA come out the American animation industry anymore. Nobody seems to be targeting the young adult audience.

The internet played a big role but I feel like the US also just doesn't have those types of shows so anime met that demand

Most people weren’t using the internet like that in the 90s or even early-mid 2000s though, the internet wasn’t nearly the tastemaker it is today

Western animation has hits here and there, but Japan has QUANTITY.

  • Oct 16, 2021

Most of the adult oriented stuff leans towards comedy too, whereas w/ anime I feel like you get a bit of everything.

It’s crazy cause we have the source material for great animated shows because of comics

Also anime’s art styles are way better than most American cartoons IMO

Probably because a lot of western animators have moved onto 3D animation. There's a lot more applicable fields with 3D animations-- 2D, not so much. Not to mention the biggest animation and animation-adjacent companies in America are primarily hiring and using animators who can deal with 3D nowadays.

Anime has been mainstream since the late 90s in America bro

In fact it’s like less mainstream now slightly, atleast thru television broadcast. but it’s definitely more accessible and can venture out to new avenues due to the internet/streaming

anime is mainstream beccause it's a psyop that demasculinzes the western male and makes them attracted to animated characters that are drawn as post-pubescent women but the creators list them as being 15 year olds in high schooll

    really makes U think..
