Do you think he’d still be relevant? Would anything have drastically changed?

If he made a better album than No Mercy he would’ve been better off. Trouble Man and Paperwork had hits tho

The last time he got locked up it changed him a lot. Dude was never the same artist and his music paid the ultimate price for it. If he never got locked up he would've had more longevity and would've been in the same conversation as Ross. Not in terms of skills, but discography.

No Mercy was so bad (at the time) that I stopped listening to him for 10 years.

When he went to prison couple of times around 2009-11 the newer cats in the game practically “replaced” him in terms of vast popularity. Even after Paper Trail he failed to have any noticeable hit on the level of Whatever You Like or Dead and Gone

That's because he never made a Pop album again. The closest we got to that was Paperwork and that spawned some big hits. It's not even his prison stint that completely f***ed him over. It was No Mercy that did the most damage. You know my awful history with that album. The crazy part is that I'm probably one of many with the same experience.

Looking back No Mercy wasn’t even that bad, it’s on the same level as Paperwork and above Dime Trap. Still underwhelming album and shame the singles he dropped the summer before only ended up on the deluxe version. If it wasn’t for prison he woulda dropped King Uncaged

I get your point though, No Mercy practically brought the same effect as Lasers where it alienated the day one fans.
