I see producers use their computer keyboard to make chords and melodies, so my question is, as someone that only played keys for a very little bit in the past, can i learn to play keys using my computer keyboard?
Yea and no
Obviously it's not as easy but I do it all the time bit ill come back with the piano roll
Just get a cheap midi lol.
No using computer keys will not teach you.
Its an accessible tool for people that already play keys, and even then, Producers edit it from their in the Piano Roll to fix the clinky and imprecise-ness of cpu keys.
Computer keyboards arent even synch right with piano rolls as a piano, its like its own thing in a way.
And of course finger placement and black keys are way different.
Get a midi, you can get a basic usb one no frills short midi keyboards for $40 to $70 @op

aight, i will consider doing that in the future. For now i'm saving my money for an electric guitar so a keyboard is not a priority atm, but big thanks for the advice.
@op you can, partially, because you don't have pressure points on a computer keyboard
it's like learning to draw with a mouse, instead of a graphic tablet, you can, but not entirely

As long as it gets the job of creating melodies and build chords for fl studio done, that's pretty much what I need
