I saw this yesterday. There were obviously a lot of cast changes from this was first announced. I assume DeNiro was in the Hopkins part, Oscar Isaac was in the Jeremy Strong part, and maybe Donald Sutherland was playing Fred Trump?
DeNiro in the Hopkins part may have been better, it feels like the movie had to justify Hopkins being British, but I kept thinking about it the whole movie.
I think Jeremy Strong did a better job playing the dad than Oscar Isaac would have, so I don't mind that change.
I don't want to completely s*** on the movie, but it felt kind of like "white savior" movie, minus the white people actually doing anything helpful, and instead just talking about how sad racism made them. It seems like a movie to make white people feel good about themselves.
The black child had the most compelling story line, but it's a personal story, so I guess James Gray was stuck telling it from his own kind of boring perspective.
Hasn’t this been out for like a good week? KTT’s not f***ing with James Gray at all
Almost a dud, but moving piece of work. The dichotomy part of this film is kind of too on the nose.
Almost as annoying a movie as 21st Century Women was
These white liberals need to f*** off for good
