Jul 7Inspired by 93 Til Infinity, I took several “sounds” from a few beat packs and chopped them up. There’s the main background sample you can hear clearly through the verses which is what reminded me of 93 Til Infinity. The chimes that roll in every bar in the chorus. And the little guitar that pops in every other bar in the chorus. I’ve been setting my FL Studio grid on zero quantization so I calculate exactly where I want each note to land. Things could be slightly off because it just sounded better that way to me. Another thing I’ve been doing these days is doing more with my velocities of my notes so some notes are quieter than others making a groove. And also knowing when to release a note. That can also affect a groove like when I drop my bass out for my Tom to get room to breathe
