With stuff like streaming and CDs every detail about the song is made exactly how the artist envisioned it while with Live performances artists can interact with the audience and improvise which puts new energy into the music, which do y’all prefer

the extra show that artists put on with live shows through the inclusion of a visual aspect can either lead to the detriment or enhancement of the audio portion it’s super 50/50

for hiphop artists live versions are almost always inferior unless you’re someone who makes use of deep intricate production like travis or kanye or drake because then you can f*** around with it a lot

Macs live from space album, wasn’t too crazy on the production side of things but I did enjoy the live tracks, it was nice hearing the back and forth between Mac and his band

Live but with Studio mics. Hip hop is better with a band.

  • Nov 7, 2020

    Depends on the artist/song

I remember since I was 14 years old I’d been imagining how fire it would be to see/hear Travis perform Don’t Play live lmao. I finally saw him live a few years ago and he performed it, the bass drowned everything out and I couldn’t even hear anything. The way some songs are mixed, it’s best u only listen to em w headphones or in the car

But yeah there are a few songs I prefer the live versions of. For example:

The emotion is unmatched compared to the way it sounds recorded

Nah not even, it was deadass just that song and a few others. It’s like all the songs after Rodeo, u can tell he wanted to focus more on how it sounded live. The Astroworld songs were f***ing amazing, but all his cult classics from before Birds sounded underwhelming live, and were carried by nostalgia

Lemme rephrase, as my memory returns it wasn’t ALL of his cult classics that were underwhelming live

I do remember DYSTI sounding pretty good, along with a few others. Uptown was f***ing insane, but there were def a few that I was looking forward to hearing live for years that weren’t what I expected, Don’t Play being one of them
