Need a new laptop for uni and i’m wondering which i should get i’m not really pc literate so idk what all these articles talking about then they mention the 1843kpe cpu. just need a laptop that would be light, good for school, and can play games that shouldn’t be too spec heavy like CK2/CK3 or maybe leaves but i’d be fine without playing these
what are you studying in school?
what apps are you planning to run?
Ecology and Evolution i don’t need anything for programming

yeah if you are just gonna be running word and chrome i would recommend a macbook air
but if you want to play games on it i would suggest a dell xps or a surface
trust, get a mac. if you're not doing anything too heavy a macbook air would work, but if you have the funds I'd say you should future-proof it a little more by getting a Pro in case you do decide to do things like RAW photo editing, any video editing, music production, etc. More CPU cores, RAM, storage, and graphics are always a good thing, but if you're not going to do any of that stuff get an Air which is still a rock solid laptop.
I used Windows for years before getting my Macbook Pro 15" in college and it works just as great as the day I got it 6 years ago, only thing I've ever needed to take it in for was a battery replacement a few months ago because the battery health was low which happens over time naturally. S*** even tho I only went in for the battery, they replace the entire chassis of the laptop so you get a brand spankin new clean keyboard and body for the cost of the battery replacement.
Windows is just so inconsistent and lacks a lot of under the hood things that come with using a unix-based operating system
quick edit: didn't even see you mention the games part, but if that's your primary goal then Windows would probably be best, or even Linux with all the new advancements there have been for the platform for games. Games on macOS are starting to get a lot better with the improvements to Metal and all that stuff too, and you can always use Bootcamp to dual boot Windows alongside macOS for your games and they'll run perfectly. Only way you can "dual boot" macOS on a Windows machine is by building a hackintosh type thing (which is risky and a lot of DIY) or using a virtual machine which can only use a fraction of the resources that the host machine has
Think I'mma save up some money and get the Asus Zephyrus Duo 15. Even though I just bought my laptop last year, that new Duo looks fire
if you NEED a laptop before like November then i would go for a hp envy x360 store.hp.com/us/en/mdp/laptops/envy-x360-204075--1#!&tab=vao, best bang per buck atm AND can play games. If you can wait, id wait for the ARM macbooks
If you want lower specs AND to be able to game, Mac definitely isn't the way to go
The Macbook Air or the baseline Pro would be fine if you're just using it for schoolwork and basic surfing (unless you're majoring in something that would require you to run intensive apps like Premiere Pro or Photoshop) but they don't hold up when you wanna throw gaming into that mix
MacBook Pro.
The Apple ecosystem is one of the most impressive and smoothest feats in modern computing technology
But it really depends on your budget
What’s your budget?
around the price of a mac air which is $1100 cad with the student deal
