Just looking at the recent attack on that US pipeline. Most of these very important infrastructures, big businesses and even government facilities can't even be bothered to upgrade their defense systems.
Then what about all the mid-low level businesses and government buildings that haven't even given online security a second thought.
There must be a s*** ton of money left to be made in cybersecurity. And it's only going to become far more valuable in the next decade. Starting to think that's where it's at
Always with the Eastern Europeans and Chinese are to be the biggest threat lol. Ransomware are getting common because it don’t cripple major things but threat actors wanted huge sum of money. It’s easy how you would get finessed through phishing.
one of my IT professors would just ramble about cybersecurity and s***
I was surprised by the amount of cyber security major students I’ve ran into my classes
security engineers in the private sector make about $200k easily where i live
it's tough to get into security though
I legit just stare at Firewall logs all day.
Did you get a degree or certificate? Do you enjoy not doing too much?

I mean it looks like they need alot more openings after this s***
These continued major attacks make us look so f***ing weak online. I don't see us continuing to ignore it over the next few years

At the very least it would be good to know how to protect myself online
My friends uncle just makes 100k going to three small businesses every week checking their stuff. He doesn't do s***. I don't even think he works full 8 hour days
I really want to know how to get in that position

I have a degree in Computer Science with no certs. I've been at the same job for 7-8 years.
i’d rather exploit infrastructure issues to bring this rotten country into the dirt

How would I guy like me get on without getting a whole ass other bachelor's. I have one in an unrelated field. I don't need specifics but do you like how much you get paid? Are you happy with your career?
You said you don't do much. But for some people that's up their alley

Yeah but then you most likely have to hide out in Russia or China the rest of your life

Certs probably and not being afraid to move.

oh yeah, there's always gonna be a demand. just there's a high skill barrier and legal bs you gotta comply with to get into it.
i'd say most people jumping into security worked in other areas of tech for at least 3-5 years prior.
Certs probably and not being afraid to move.
Word. Well thank you for your insight

My job isn't really Security though, we just don't have anyone else to do it. I do more Systems and Network Admin/Engineering work with a bit of development.

I’m in my majors in cybersecurity and going to be a senior this fall. I think it’s kind of multidisciplinary in a way you deal with programming, networking through radio frequencies, systems administration, malware a***ysis, etc I think it’s very cool but rewarding. Plus there are also some legal aspects to it from dealing with draconian laws like HIPAA for example.

Anyone that falls under NERC compliance is where the money is going to be at.

All I know is a little programming. I'd have alot to work on if I went into the field.
It seems like it would be a really cool career though
