The girl who was on the call later sued Drake for using the call without permission, Drake references it on Redemption:
The whole song took 3 days from when 40 made the beat to it being released on the OVO blog:

The importance of this song not only to Drake but to music as a whole cannot be understated forreal. This was truly a track where you just had to be there. As someone who was going through a breakup during the time of this coming out I could almost right a essay about how much this song meant to me
classic
I love this song. It has definitely become a staple of the culture, everyone loves it and Drake's brutal honesty has resonated with listeners
“I think I’m addicted to naked pictures and sitting talking about b****es that we almost had” was literally my life in 2011
This might be the most relevant song Jojo made in the aughts
This song changed r&b forever
“I think I’m addicted to naked pictures and sitting talking about b****es that we almost had” was literally my life in 2011
Remember when Drake used to fly around on a stripper pole performing Marvin’s Room?

THIS WAS THE SIMP ANTHEM
When i was not fully into drake music i just stumbled upon the Forever song with em and all only because it has em on it and I was a big em stan.
After listening to Drake verse on that I thought hmm this guys cool too. Then I heard Best I ever had and I was hmm he sings too then I heard find your love and I was like hmmm this dude is an RNB singer that raps sometimes then I stumbled upon the youtube treasure trove of Drake songs where I found Marvin's room and s*** was never the same.
This was at a time I was like 15-16 i guess and prolly going thru some simp s*** obv and where I lived it was at a time where sheesha bars were all the rage and everybody and their mama were into sheesha - so this song has that perfect smoking sheesha alone vibes with its atmosphere.
and I had a little ipod nano with marvins room on it - I remember marvins room always had the most all time plays ever. like nothing could ever beat it lol.
Imagine if CLB has a song that even touches closes to what MARVINS ROOM is as an icon of a song.
