also creator of Cat Soup, Ping Pong, Kaiba, the Tatami sequel Night is Short Walk On Girl, Devilman Crybaby......if you don't know any of these titles you've been sleeping under a rock tbh.
one of the goat anime directors who's currently one of the most prolific as well, his second series this year just dropped on Netflix (his second collab after Devilman)
Keep Your Hands of Eizouken is pretty great
Japan Sinks 2020 is a fantastic concept with disappointingly sub-par execution imo
my personal ranking of Yuasa's filmography:
Tatami Galaxy
Mind Game
Cat Soup
Night Is Short Walk on Girl
Kaiba
Ping Pong
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken
Devilman Crybaby
all great!! unreal versatility
Just downloaded tatami mind game night is short and kaiba
trailers all look incredible. Already watched the first two eps of tatami last night. Will prolly crush the rest of it later tonite.
Only complaint so far is the dialogue is so wordy and spoken so quickly that the subtitles are hard to follow while also trying to watch the animation. s*** is beautiful tho and I like how the animation/art style isn’t like the typical anime. They way he does the trees/leaves w the all over print so good.

Tatami Galaxy improves your skim reading skills, and zero cap on that lol.

yo I’m so glad I peeped this thread
Already watched tatami, mind game, night is short, and currently watching Kaiba which is pretty f***ing crazy
Lu over the wall prolly my least fav. Watched that one before you made this thread w/o knowing anything about masaaki

yo I'm glad to hear that those are for sure some of his best works too
Still haven't seen Lu, don't really have high expectations for it either tbh. I do have some hopes for Kemonozume which is the last of his series (except Japan Sinks) which I haven't peeped yet, looks like more in the Mind Game style
in love w the soundtrack for kaiba
it really takes the whole show to another level i feel like its so crucial for setting the mood and making it a lil more serious cause the art style can come off kinda goofy/childish or whatever
