I feel like this whole fake bootleg shoes really appropriated the whole mid 2000’s urban look without the actual clothes or culture of it. Like these shoes reminded me of the shoes you would see at a store at the ghetto mall that would have the evisus you weren’t sure if they were real or fake and the coogi shirts that would be playing sittin sideways by Paul wall on the speakers. But instead of having that vibe people that own shoes try to act edgy cause they have guns or hockey mask or knifes on their shoes it’s cringy

while i understand why someone would buy fake items, especially for sneakers, i do not think that somebody should. ethics aside, i think its a total consumerist mindset to buy that exact item that x celeb wore

i don't disagree but i guess the counterpoint from a lot of these guys is that they supposedly like the look independent of the hype and that the real consumerist mindset is only accepting a small subsection of similar looking shoes as legit or cool or whatever

i always say that EVERYBODY is affected by hype and wider discourse to some extent though. these dudes will literally never admit it but they would definitely not be copping fake dunks if dunks weren't having a huge cultural moment right now.

i think with warren lotas, he'd prob have gotten away with it if he didn't keep very publicly going to the same well like 3-4 times in the space of a year. and the jeff staple stuff only painted a bigger target on his head.
