Welcome to the drop of the evening. Tonight I present to you a group that has long been defunct. A group that operated in the funk stratosphere on.a major label. Now when I say Funk, I’m not talking like some would with a pop band who had funk tendencies. I’m talking about a band that sounds like they were raised on Sly Stone, Prince, James Brown, Curtis, P-Funk

The group started in 1989 and worked their way in the club circuit in Raleigh. The bassist has a nice vocal tone and a falsetto that delivers for the song’s. The guitar work is solid on rhythm and lead. Keyboardist’s have some skills. The drummer is solid. Dag would have their music in a few film’s Bad Boys & Boomerang (of all places) If you saw those film’s, you heard Dag. There’s lots of cool keyboards/synths, funky drumming, hard ass basslines, these funky liquid wah was guitar sounds.

You might like this if you like:

Prince,P-Funk,JMSN,Isley Bros,Cameo, Slave,Ohio Players, Zapp, The Time, Sly, Rick James, James Brown, Jamiroquai etc

It seems to take a few musical references from Sly There’s a Riot-Fresh and Prince’s Controversy-Dirty Mind-1999-SOTT type sounds. They even use the pitch shifter sound guitar what Prince uses on a few of his most acclaimed work.

This s*** sounds nice on speakers & that’s the drop this evening. A Group called “DAG” I’m sure you will find enough material to be glad that you have this to play for this week’s drop.

It’s hard to believe that Columbia records signed a funk band to their label and let them co-write work that sounds like this. Because the truth is, this was the Grunge invasion and Grunge and G-Funk were in high swing. Funk band’s on major label’s were like unicorn’s in 90’s.

This band is definitely a mood and I hope you like it. That’s Dag and I’ve just covered them for their one & only time on KTT2. One final note, what a waste of space & time to go through all that paperwork to be featured in a film but you don’t get to be on the soundtrack. That’s like being a painter and you offer some work and they don’t put it in the gallery instead they put your work in a hallway nobody goes to. 3 film’s and no soundtrack. That’s the music biz for you.

    DAG were:

    Bobby Patterson
    Brian Dennis
    Kenny Soule
    Doug Jervey
    Kai Russell
    Jen Gunderman

See you on the next one, soon

There's an amusing foot note to why I use that.

I had them at the bottom and someone said to me "Damn, I dont want to read all this s***, cant you put it at the top? Please"

And then i thought " You have a point, sir. I can see why you would be annoyed"

I try, fam. I just go with what I think someone may not likely find ever again and it could be just this one time they are introduced to it. I just go on that feeling & stay true to it.

BTW in case you didn't read the post, one interesting detail is we all have heard DAG subconsciously. This group was featured on Bad Boys film but not on the soundtrack. (according to wiki) I guess the label of the soundtrack didn't want to put them on.

They also had their music in the Boomerang film but not on the soundtrack. (I'm noticing a pattern here) The movie studio was probably like "Will use you for this cut scene but the soundtrack? "

That's cold blooded. you had to look at the cd and see how much space they had and you still were not landing on the tracklist. Will & Martin probably grooving to your cd in each trailer. Whole cast jamming to Dag promo cd. You still are not getting track 16.

It happened 3 times... 2 blockbuster film's ...what are the odd's?
