Disillusioned like many Americans he decided to put aside his multi million dollar job as a Football player and joined the US Army. He learned about the corruption of the Iraq War and proceeded to critique it as he read more leftist and anti-war literature while using his personal experiences in the US Military. His friendly fire death was covered up by the army then used by the NFL and United States to promote US Imperialism and illegal occupation of the middle east, which was against his will. The funeral and everything after his death was used against his and his family’s will. He was an atheist but again America used their power to promote their war and religion. In the words of his brother:

“Just make no mistake, he'd want me to say this: He's not with God, he's f***ing dead, he's not religious." Richard added, "Thanks for your thoughts, but he's f***in' dead.”
