Pfizer and its partner BioNTech said evidence was building that people's immunity starts to wane after they have been vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine requires two doses to provide full immunity.

"As seen in real world data released from the Israel Ministry of Health, vaccine efficacy in preventing both infection and symptomatic disease has declined six months post-vaccination, although efficacy in preventing serious illnesses remains high," Pfizer said in a statement emailed to CNN.

"Additionally, during this period the Delta variant is becoming the dominant variant in Israel as well as many other countries. These findings are consistent with an ongoing a***ysis from the Companies' Phase 3 study," it added.

"While protection against severe disease remained high across the full six months, a decline in efficacy against symptomatic disease over time and the continued emergence of variants are expected. Based on the totality of the data they have to date, Pfizer and BioNTech believe that a third dose may be beneficial within 6 to 12 months following the second dose to maintain highest levels of protection." It gave no further details

Still fighting to think needing a booster is a bad thing

Get the 2 now and get the booster if needed down the line, simple concept.

the need for boosters isn’t surprising considering its common place in vaccines anyway

what is surprising to me, however, is the rate at which they are saying we would need one

losing efficacy in 6 months seems a little lackluster imo. granted you are still somewhat protected

but it begs the question of how many emergency use medications would you want to put in your body in 1 year

No jinx but since around July last year I’ve been moving flagrantly as far as Covid goes and no Vid on this side
I don’t want to take a shot that’s going to make me sick lol, I’ll wait it out for it to be mandatory to live or just catch the rony

i feel you, it’s extremely anxiety inducing.

there’s extreme covid anxiety, and then there’s extreme anxiety of still not feeling safe even when you do your part and get vaccinated

and then there’s also anxiety (at least for me and a few others i have talked to irl) about the vaccines in general

granted, i know it’s highly unlikely to experience any real adverse side effects, but it doesn’t change the anxiety one feels if they are susceptible to extreme health anxiety like i am lol. damned if you do, damned if you don’t type situation

i am fully vaccinated for everything else, and i am fully aware we need it here vaccines to end covid

however, my personal anxieties are causing me to currently abstain from this one

for context, i don’t even smoke weed anymore because i don’t know how it’s handled or who it’s handled by. so it’s not just a vaccine thing

it remains high, however the efficacy is waning, hence the need for the booster

the context of the article is, it currently remains high but it will continue wane over time, meaning it will no longer be high after time
