What are some Pivotal moments in Hip-Hop that changed the Standards of how things are done.

For example: If you was beefing with somebody and they dissed you on a record.
Back then you could take as much time as you wanted replying to a diss record.

But when Drake Dropped Back To Back. S*** changed.

The new standard became you had to drop as fast as possible or you would be seen as the loser. iirc

    Another Example is illmatic.
    I could be wrong but.
Before illmatic the norm for alot of albums was
One Producer and then the artists did their thing.

But with illmatic Nas had alot of Producers that would later all become household names.
Although there were alot of different producers the cohesiveness of the album stayed.

And to this day illmatic is still seen as the Definitive Rap Album.

Ironically now we see Nas with just Hit Boy now and hes having alot of success off of that old formula.

But What are some other moments in Hip Hop that changed how artists go about things.

very simple answer that you cannot argue.

the 1977 NY blackout. look it up if you don't know. i'm convinced hiphop wouldn't even exist in today's form if it wasn't for that blackout

Jay not writing, Wayne not writing

Wayne making double cups “cool” (even tho that’s mostly over)

    Travis vocal chain

Chief Keef being the hood Justin Bieber

Drake finessing public perception after TML flopped

Kendrick having basically no direct influence on the next generation of rappers

    Atlanta’s fall (ongoing)

and that goes for hiphop, and bootlegging culture, and mixtape culture, and real house music and some aspects of internet piracy.

    He replied in 4 days.

Where in op I said people would take months to reply to a diss.

Meek took forever to respond as well.

That I personally remember but basically solidified the direction of sound that labels could view as successful. No coincidence that Graduation came out at the end of 2007 and then subsequently a new rise of artists who were more akin to Kanye (backpacking or internet/blog type) than 50

  • Oh the sudden shift from slowed down/ downer friendly music 2 sped up/ addy/upper friendly stuff

no but close, 50 started this on this own way before that. that's what makes the graduation moment even bigger. Kanye beat 50 at his own game.
