Seriously idk how this s*** is still so loved n im also someone thats been playing since Pokemon Yellow. Gen 2 games are incredibly missed potential that could have at least been fixed in its remakes but no, they kept the remakes the same. Gen 1 & Gen 3 remakes have improvements from Pokemon locations to level balancing etc. but Gen 2 remakes is mostly the same with just a few addons instead of revisions

Part 1, the Pokemon (my personal biggest gripe with the gen):

• HALF OF gen 2 Pokemon arent available until late game, post game or even worst basically endgame at mount silver, & some of them EVEN THEN in the main game are extremely hard to get.

• Misdeavaus (why???) & Larvitar (why???) at end game MT Silver when the game is over

• Houndour (why???) one of my favs of all time & Murkrow are post game ONLY IN KANTO

• Skarmory, Sneasel, Gligar, Teddiursa & Phanphy are late game at literally the main EIGHTH GYM BADGE grass area & cave

• Aipom & Heracross (why???) are an extremely rare spawn in the stupid ass headbutt trees. Like stupid rare almost 1 percent chance. Other mons are also only in the headbutt trees such as Pineco but theyre not as rare even tho still difficult.

• Tyrouge you can only get by a random generated egg gift ONE TIME, or you have to breed Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan with Ditto, NOT WITH EACH OTHER LMAO, n you can ONLY GET HITMONTOP BY EVOLVING TYROUGE.

• Oh, Natu & Smeragle? Yeah you can get them in the main game, BUT theyre hidden at the end of all the Ruin of Alph puzzles after you get surf halfway+ through, hope you remember & find the specific one that leads to them

• A further good chunk of the roster is locked behind item TRADE evolutions which requires finding a one time only specific hidden item n needing another game to even experience. Steelix, Porygon 2, Scizor, Slowking & Kingdra.

• ANOTHER good chunk of the roster is littered with many useless baby Pokemon, only some were worth it n necessary while the majority wasnt.

• The wild Pokemon in level balancing is dumb as hell. WHY THE F*** IS THE WILD POKEMON AT GYM 8 ARE IN THE LOW TO MID 20s, WHILE SHE HAS LEVEL 40s ON HER TEAM. TRAINING TAKES FOREVER, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DONT BATTLE EVERY TRAINER OUT THERE

• Many Pokemon needed full lines like Yanma, Girafirag, Dunsparce etc. but since they dont they are weak af even in their debut gen, only some have been fixed but not all n not in their debut

• WHY ARE SO MANY OF THE OTHER NEW POKEMON, THE ONES 80 PERCENT OF PEOPLE WILL EVER EXPERIENCE IN GEN 2, F***ING GARBAGE STAT AND MOVEPOOL WISE BESIDES LIKE UMBREON, ESPEON & THE MAREEP LINE??! (Ampharos is a GOAT THO n one of my favs along with Espeon )

• Yeah SOME this was fixed in Crystal, but not all, yeah SOME of crystal carried over to the remakes, BUT NOT ALL.

Part 2, the Gyms/League:

• Why are their levels all over the place starting out super low then randomly spikes super high later on

• Why do most Johto gyms NOT EVEN USE GEN 2 POKEMON

• You can easily blast through the post game Kanto gyms n region

• And why do we have unnecessary Gym types that obviously the roster couldnt support such as Dragon n Ghost

Part 3, the Game World:

• So much of the world is arbitrarily blocked off...

• The world isnt very diverse even compared to Kanto

• Yeah Kanto added on is cool but why is it so half assed & gimped & easy to blitz through? S***s like a beta of Kanto lmao so much is taken out, shrunken & permanently blocked off LOL. Yeah due to memory originally, but honestly they should have just made Johto a bigger region for more area diversity & proper Pokemon placement then, n add a dozen or bit over more Pokemon to fill in the Pokemon that needed lines like mentioned above n even some totally new ones. Its obvious it was too ambitious & not worth it. Kanto hurted gen 2 imo n should have been cut since it was so gimped n just focus on making Johto better, & even worst they could have at least fleshed out Kanto more in the remakes, but they didnt

Part 4, F*** ur Feelings:

• Yeah yeah you grew up with gen 2 & have nostalgia attachment, so did I, doesnt mean anything of its actual quality. We can still enjoy it while recognizing its (many) faults.

• Yeah yeah Kanto post game is just so cool tho, not really, its a pathetic version of Kanto & took away from a lot of potential n dev skill/time.

• Yeah yeah it was their first sequel, cool, but they could have fixed most of it in Crystal (only some was fixed) or at the very least the remakes. N still doesnt help hindsight.

• Sorry bro its ass & a gigantic waste of potential n opportunity along with so much rehashing.

• Its a crime that most people wont even experience or be attached to half the new Pokedex due to all the stupid ass placements.

• Gen 2 feels like Gen 1.5

• This s*** has been on my mind heavy since like gen 4/5 lmao n im sick of all the nostalgic d*** sucking of gen 2 when its objectively bottom 3 & missed potential s*** is worst than gen wunners ever were

And with that, this is why Gen 2 is ASS, actually

I can't agree with this take Finishing Johto and discovering they put the ENTIRE region of Kanto in there is one of the best gaming memories I have Also, this was legendary

I feel like gen 2 had the best mythology/world-building. most if not all of the legendaries had compelling backstories as did many of the towns/locations and while it may have been undercooked having an entire post-game region is more than we've gotten in any other post-game. also the Red battle is probably top 1 moment in all of pokemon.
