I think it’s cus they old and live off the traditional “back in my day” so times they heard about as a kid and times they lived through brings nostalgia that they prolly try to capture in they films over and over

Culture is kinda dead right now. It’s in this weird limbo where the only meaningful expression of it is online and it’s just these fractured camps all combating each other constantly. It’s not interesting. There’s no vibe or unifying aesthetic. Film is a great medium to essentially time travel so it’s no wonder directors with a really stylistic impulse want to indulge in periods of history where that’s appropriate.

If we being 100% ion think white culture is interesting rn besides what Safdies bring to the table. Black modern culture definitely is and that’s why we are getting contemporary pieces like get out, sorry to bother you, moonlight, last black man in San Fran, blindspotting, etc.

I hope he makes a modern crime movie set in current day or at least set in the 21st century. The period pieces have been great but I’m in for a modern drama

QT prob my fave director of all though, holds a special place for me

I've kinda theorised for a while actually that he might not really be planning to do a 10th movie actually - I feel like he's the kinda guy who would go for a "never say goodbye" type of thing, especially considering he once said he planned to start a family only after he was done with movies.

So after he was finished with OUATIH and confirmed he was having a kid I started to really wonder

Now he's got books and his new podcast going on, too
