Not sure if it was because I saw this film amongst the lighthouse, honeyboy, peanut butter falcon and uncut gems at LFF but I thought this was pretty average tbh
anybody else feel Rian Johnson made Chris Evans' character too arrogant and therefore you knew Evan's character was involved right away?
the extreme hardball at the start and the subsequent cooldown when in private actually let my guard down
So many tidbits in the writing that make me wanna watch it over again
Every line is a chekovs gun whether it’s the family’s attitude or how Harlan’s quote about his grandson not knowing a murder weapon from a fake one applied at the climax
This was solid. Felt pretty obvious about midway through and was disappointed the reveal had no additional follow-up or twist but all around a solid mystery.
Best of the year talk? Dunno about that. Off the top of my head parasite, lighthouse, dragged across concrete, once upon a time in Hollywood, us, ad astra, climax, and high life were better movies for me. And that’s not including movies I haven’t seen yet and end of years ones that haven’t come out. This was good for sure but cmon

Now if Shyamalan was on this....

Lol not sure if it’s a good thing or not how straightforward the movie is. Wasn’t sure at first if the depictions of events we saw would change up or not.
Probably would’ve been worse if the movie tried to load on a bunch of twists or fake reveals so will give it some credit. But ppl really surprised by this? S*** was obvious the second you know who jumped into you know who’s car.

Big love brother but don’t slander Shyamalan in front of my eyes please
Also yeah I thought it was pretty good because I’m a sucker for mystery murders stuff but if we be real it’s super by the book, could totally be a TV movie or streaming movie, I’m just happy Rian is back doing original work I feel he is better at that

Shamylan deserves credit for always doing it his way. Movies of his that ppl point to as his biggest failures at least have a singular vision.
His trajectory is interesting too. Dude rose to the top, fell after avatar, then came right back up. Dude knows how to play the game.
Knives out was super by the book though. Its biggest fault imo. It’s 2019 rian johnson. Pulp fiction 20+ yrs old by now you can switch it up
