During the near end of the punk scene in the late 70s emerged a new genre listed as ”Post-Punk”, which then spawned the subgenre known as “Gothic Rock” with Siouxsie and the Banshees at the forefront of the movement. Siouxsie to this day is held as the woman who defines the characteristics of what a goth is with her gloomy personality and unique fashion style at the time.

They were an extraordinary singles band with hits like Cities in Dust, Spellbound, Happy House & Hong Kong Gardens. They’d become a cult like figure for their unique sound & chic image. Influencing artists from the likes of The Smiths, Joy Division & The Cure, they were hailed as a standout band during the 80s and one of the best bands of all time.

    Albums:
    The Scream
    Join Hands
    Kaleidoscope
    Juju
    A Kiss in the Dreamhouse
    Hyæna
    Tinderbox
    Through the Looking Glass
    Peepshow
    Superstition
    The Rapture

Imagine growing up during the 80s and witnessing them during their peak. Not to forget all the other bands peaking during that time too, New Order, Smiths, Cure, Cocteau Twins. The best decade for music.

The best decade for rock, yes. Music as a whole I don’t agree on that

Nah just for rock, maybe pop too but not overall. So many bands emerged during that decade with new genres popping up too.

I’d say start with Juju & Tinderbox, both should give you a rough idea of their sound with some of their biggest hits present on both albums.

The main albums which I’d say are consistently good are.

    The Scream
    Tinderbox
    Juju
    Kaleidoscope
    A Kiss in the Dreamhouse
    Hyeana

The rest are quite patchy but still worth listening to if you like the albums above. 🖤

This is probably my favourite off that album, the lyrics are so moving and the haunting backing vocals.
