he's an unremarkable social democrat and his campaign is a rehash of the Jesse Jackson campaigns of the 80s and the McGovern campaign of '72, except this time as farce rather than tragedy.

the movement behind him on the other hand is somewhat notable, though unless socialists actually capitalize on it and build a genuine workers' party out of black, native, latino, LGBT, and poor white working class people; itll wind up just being absorbed into the neoliberal/DNC establishment, which is exactly what has happened in the past multiple times: (CPUSA falling behind the CIO in the 40s, the right-wing of the Black Panther Party splitting off to create the non-profit industrial complex, communists being pulled into the DNC through the Rainbow Coalition in the 80s, etc.)

My thing is, you say all of this s*** and it seems meaningless imo unless you explain why any of that matters. When minorities and white people seem energized to actually get some s*** done.

The way things are going politically right now I just don't see how something being a "rehash" or being similar to something that happened in the past. You see the speeches, you see people other than old whites coming out to support, you see Bernie's track record. What out there right now that stands a chance against the cult leader we have in office right now is better than Bernie?

it's interesting you label his campaign as a farce even though he has the support of a good amount of the working class and is working toward some of your interest like $15 min wage, Healthcare for All, reproductive rights, ETC.. Also idk how its a rehash of those campaigns when he's been more successful and has different ideas than both of them. It might be similar but you are discounting his movement.

it matters because it the only way you're going to get the things you want if you're a socialist, and because there is an entire globe full of people who depend on us to stop US imperialism and the genocide it creates

its a rehash of earlier attempts at socialist "entryism" into the democratic party. there's nothing particularly novel about it, its been attempted and failed several times even when the socialist movement was far more militant and the influence of the socialists was far greater than it is today. obviously the democratic party isnt a workers party, let alone even a traditional labor party, its a bourgeois party and if working class people want to gain some sort of upper hand or fight US imperialism itll have to be done outside the DNC because entryism isnt possible and those movements will simply be co-opted and the radicals within them purged.

i dont care who people vote for, do what you want, but dont carry illusions about what the DNC is capable of or who at the end of the day they actually serve. this is why a genuine workers' party is necessary and why capitalizing on the rise of Sanders by building one is the correct path forward.
