Noel Pointer is something else. I didn't know about him a month ago. His lp's are buried under quite a sea of music to find. There isn't really any articles on him you can point to & a obituary. Just blurbs
Noel Pointer was a Brooklyn prodigy and played at a symphony at 13 years old performing Vivaldi. He played in Barry White's orchestra by the age of 19. In his life he would play in Broadway musicals,
But he was one OF THE ONLY Violinists with a major solo record deal in jazz. Only a few could get that coveted spot. He signed to Blue Note records
There is a lot of Allstars from session veterans of jazz- Earl Klugh, Steve Gadd, Will Lee, John Tropea, Dave Grusin, Patti Austin - to name a few.
He would only make 7 lp's in his lifetime but he did have a interesting sound to him. I guess the first name that comes up when we discuss electric violin is Jean Luc Ponty. There's a few others. Michael Urbaniak,Jerry Goodman,Billy Bangs,Sugarcane Harris, John Blake, Michael White.
His music is very versatile in his approach and you will see if you decide to traverse through his catalog. Eventually in his career he starts singing and we find out he has quite the voice as well.
In his life he would become heavily involved in Christian Science philosophy. He would work with many greats in music that the world knows and loves. He passed away at the very young age of 39 but he left us with a intriguing legacy. Maybe you are related to Noel Pointer and you don't even know it.
If you are interested to find out more about Noel Pointer. You are in luck someone put up a profile piece and you can stream it here.

This shares his philosophy as an artist how he defines himself. Lots of cool footage as well.
I will be back on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Until then I hope you like this latest discovery and pass it on to someone who will appreciate it.
he does a version of the quincy jones roots score in medley form on violin . fam, don’t sleep 😳
and a beautiful version of superwoman
i’ll be back tomorrow with another one
⛷
i will be back tomorrow with something different. ask to be notified if you are new & fell into this thread by accident
you can always message me and i will put you on the list - it’s easy 😎
goat levels on his voice
the chorus
that bridge
the emotion & then his mf hits you with the violin 🎻 outro 😭
tomorrow i shall return - we will cover a lot this weekend 😎
Checking this out rn. Just recently listened to Jean Luc Ponty for the first time and loved his stuff. Turns out my dad is a big fan of jazz fusion so he put me on

yes, great observation. this guy i would say was a fan of ponty. you couldn’t escape him in 70’s. There is no way he was the michael jordan of that fusion world
that was like the violin trinity
stuff smith
grapelli
and ponty (i’m definitely going to do a drop on him)
those were the 3 people who made it acceptable to be a jazz solo artist violinist leader and release lp’s
but what makes him different from that world he’s an amazing vocalist. he starts to flex as a singer a few lp’s in. He was as great as a musician and vocalist as George Benson. i’m going to say that.
Even on the discogs page he isnt listed as a singer. 😳 it makes you wonder if people even know outside of his fanbase
check out the ten minute profile on him on vimeo link , there’s some cool studio and live footage. it really explains why you or i don’t know his name. 😎
I see why the label stopped pushing him. His family were christian science advocates
You can start to hear him sing more prominently on the third or fourth lp
anyways, thank you for the response i got more violin s*** coming 😎
btw did you know saukrates is s violin prodigy? he was nelly furtado’s violinist , here he is playing Led Zep’s Kashmir
right there hitting the pose and aggressive riff 🎻
if you are new to my threads i’m going to summarize it
i feature a artist-musician- group - whatever who has caught my ear. he or she can be from any time period or global region
at the top you see 2 links download and streaming.
the dl link is a zip file with everything i discuss in the thread
the streaming link is a link to all the work in one joined mp3 file. i do this for 2 reasons -
1) people are moving around and they don’t want to download things, they just want to hear it
2) this way you can listen to it and download if you shut your phone screen you can listen and it will keep playing. i may start doing timestamps for each album and put that information in the archive page. 😎
the download link is one zip file and it’s everything in order in different folders.
usually my drop days are thursday-sun
on these days (that doesn’t mean it will be on that day- i may only have one that week- it depends on my schedule)
for instance tonight - i already have another one which i like a lot. This one is over 3 hours. You see how we move on this side? i just dropped a 4 hour pack and now i’m back to offer something different. 😨
and one last mention - all of my links none of these expire. you can go back in a year and it’s there. i made the switch to archive dot org for streaming v because they don’t flag my uploads.
my downloads rarely get flagged
see you soon
if you missed it
7 albums in total
3 out of print
one of the most gifted 🐐’s ever in music. didn’t know about him and quite the singer and violinist
a lot of times in the studio he would sing and play at the same time
scroll up to the top of the thread and the links are always there. choose your best option for you. See you on the next one, thank you for the support & interest in music selections from me. 😎
One of the more beautiful songs I've listened to in my life. Thank you for this recommendation @AudioConsulting

this is a killer moment on a motown record i discovered , they give him a minute of this version of marvin’s ecology
i don’t think i’ve heard someone get a minute on a motown record other than a band record. he really soars on this
and while looking for this i see someone finally uploaded a live show from him from 1978
so that’s 2 things i can add if people are discovering him 😎
