I just got the way of kings and wanted to see if anybody else read it.

I tried to get into Sanderson multiple times because of the GRRM comparisons and especially because GRRM hates him lol(the goat hating alone made him worthy). I tried Mistborn first then Stormlight but couldn't get into any of them.

I’m like halfway through the first book and was loving it but haven’t picked it up in a while. Need to get on that

He's kinda the antithesis of GRRM. Kinda PG, he really churns out them out and he delivers what he promises. But they're not really deep or that exciting as fantasy can be, a little formulaic and the writing isn't great. You know what you're getting

I listened in work and travelling and they were great for that. Maybe the fact I basically went through all his books 1 after another made me a bit critical, but then again I was clearly liking them enough to do that

wow didn't know that. I got into fantasy because of Game of Thrones and Sanderson is a pretty beloved author in the fantasy genre so imma def give him a chance. I got Mistborn too

I’ve read the first two and listened to them. I like them a lot. I need to get around to reading the third.

tried getting into it thru the audiobooks couldn’t do it tho

unrelated but if you are looking for dark, try out joe abercrombie first law trilogy. asoiaf is the greatest of all time and nothing comes close obviously but first law would restore the feelings a little

the story is simple enough and the magic/fantasy element is pretty minimal, basic and easily understandable unlike sanderson's stuff

the central characters are great. do reply here or @ meh whenever you start reading it

Definitely a slow build but the ending is well worth it. Great character arcs and some epic moments with enough mystery to keep me coming back
