They include gay people in so much media today because its important that today's generation grows up knowing that its okay to be gay. Its okay if they're gay, its okay if their friends come out.

You grew up in the 90s. Do you remember how we used to talk to each other? Do you remember how often homophobia was part of that? This show doesn't need that.

I do hope they touch on the homophobia in the 90s with Ozzie's character at some point, just to acknowledge how hard the community had it back then. But I'm okay with the fact that Leia and her family and lil friend group accept him.

A gay person existing in a group of outcasts in the 90s is not unusual. They're literally kinda like my gf's friend group, who have been friends since teenagers in the early 00s.
