Dark Souls 1 - First half is amazing. Everything after Ornstein & Smough kinda sucks ass, except for Gwyn. Still love it.

Dark Souls 2 - Messy masterpiece. A lot of the bosses are s*** but that's ok. Awesome atmosphere and world. Feels like a proto-Elden Ring in a lot of ways.

Dark Souls 3 - My favorite Souls. It's more linear but I don't care. Best bosses, soundtrack, level design. The DLCs are Unfuckwithable game.

Bloodborne - Another mastapiece, just remaster it and free this thing from its PS4 prison already. Love the Van Helsing on crack vibe. Also the best combat along with..

Sekiro - Perfect game. Best samurai/ninja game ever. Isshin might be the greatest boss fight in the history of games. Just wish we got a DLC.

Elden Ring - One of the best games ever made. But then again I feel that way about every game on this list.

Worst aspect having played ER & BB, would be magic & special skill mapping like Ashes of war. Feel like there are countless examples of better ways to utilize magic and skills on the fly, rather than cycling through 1 at a time.

I always forget to use the Ashes Of War tbh

I kinda neglected them on my first run but so many of them just wreck s*** and trivialize some bosses

    Gotta read them item descriptions

    This how I'd rank them

    1) Demon's Souls (my first in the series and pretty much everybody has their first as their favorite)
    2) Bloodborne (love the fast pace + mostly linear world design)
    3) Elden Ring (open world is a fresh take on Souls games, frequent sight of graces makes the game not so punishing

    4) Dark Souls (estus flask system was needed, I think the world is overhyped)
    5) Dark Souls 3 (continues fast pace of Bloodborne but most forgettable of the whole series imo)
    6) Dark Souls 2 (not a fan of the world design an at this point I was burnt out on this series already)

    7) Sekiro (this shouldn't be in the Soulsborne conversation just cause it's so different. The combat in this game isn't my style so I never clicked with the game)

Nah that’s the beauty of these games for me and it totally fits the vibe. They all got some degree of cosmic horror/mysticism to them even outside of Bloodborne which is the most known for that

I don’t know a single piece of media that has made me watched/listened to hours upon hours of peoples’ lore interpretations

It wouldn’t be as interesting if it were a straight forward story. So much richness to the characters, locations and stories of these games but it’s all in the little details

Like i said before itt i haven’t played it so i can’t write about it now can i lol

I’ve seen plenty of it ofc but it’s a game at the end of the day so i can’t write accurate thoughts about Demons Souls

I feel like there's so many major plot events in Bloodborne most people wouldn't even know about if not for lore videos on Youtube. And I don't think that's good story telling

Lol just because it’s not for you doesn’t make it not good. My favorite sort of films tell their story through mood, nuances and interpretation. So for a guy like me the story in Bloodborne is more rich and interesting than any other linear and clear story in any other game ever

I don't mind leaving some things open to interpretation and I feel like it actually suits this game better than having constant cutscenes and exposition. But most people don't get the gist of the story just from playing the game and that's where the issue is

Yeah but thats my point, thats not the issue. Because this game isn’t for those people. Same thing with the dumb difficulty discussion. It’s made for people who don’t like having their hand held both in gameplay and story/lore

If people have any issue with that they should reconsider if the game is for them or not

That’s why i spoke of experimental films that convey what they want to convey via mood and atmosphere over plot. Lot of people find it pretentious or don’t get it or w/e but it’s just not made for them

I guess cause it's not technically a souls game. It is very different from the rest of the games, i agree that it's easily their best game but ig it just depends on what people are looking for in these games.

The issue i’ve had with every FromtSoftwsre game i’ve played is the pacing falls completely flat 75% into the game. Just feels boring and repetitive.

Too different, one of the biggest aspects of soulsborne is the build variety

Lmaoo I think the only one that didn’t drag THAT bad was Sekiro.

My issue is that the way the game is designed is that it will just be repetitive no matter what. You explore a new area find a boss kill it and just repeat that until you beat the game.

Most satisfying gameplay loop of all time especially because exploration and boss fights are my fav things in gaming and especially the way From has mastered those things
