After a seven-year hiatus, minus a brief reunion in 2018, The Gaslight Anthem is getting the band back together.

The New Brunswick rockers posted to Twitter late Friday morning announcing they would be "returning to full time status as a band." In a follow up tweet, they also said that tour dates will be announced "in the next couple of days," and that the group was beginning to write music for what would be their sixth LP.

The Gaslight Anthem, fronted by Brian Fallon along with Alex Rosamilia, Alex Levine and Benny Horowitz, released its debut album "Sink or Swim" in 2007. The group really broke out, however, in 2008 with "The '59 Sound," which put them at the forefront of the modern punk rock scene.

The band went on indefinite hiatus in 2015 following their European summer tour, but got back together for a string of shows in 2018 to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of "The '59 Sound."

Many fans expected something was up, as the band's Twitter account has posted cryptic videos every day this week after not having posted since December 2021.
In the tweet announcing the reunion, Fallon pulled a bait and switch, saying there wouldn't be a version of the 2018 anniversary shows for to celebrate 10 years of their 2012 album "Handwritten." Some fans are pulling for anniversary shows for the debut album, which turns 15 this year.

Since going on hiatus, the various members have stayed busy. Fallon in particular has been prolific, releasing four solo albums and an EP since 2016, his most recently a 2021 collection of hymns and Christmas Carols called "Night Divine." He also spoke with the Asbury Park Press as a part of our track-by-track look at Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run."

Meanwhile guitarist Alex Rosamilia and bassist Alex Levine formed a new group, Forgivers, and released their first single this time last year.
