yes, kind of part of why its iconic imo, that odd future were kind of affecting the edgy scumbag aesthetic but he ended up being revealed to be an actual scumbag

How so
you said the fact terry an abuser makes it iconic
i dont think being an abuser should make anything ever in any context iconic lol

I mean pick a different word if it makes it sound like I’m just saying it was “cool” because of that but what I mean is that it is representative —an icon, a potent symbolic representation — of the decade where the dynamic flipped and tyler/ Frank/Earl became more respected and less edgy outre (indeed, many blog favorites became integrated into the mainstream) while Richardson was outed as The Real Villain, as were many abusive men with power and influence were during the decade (particularly towards the end)
Looking at this picture now (and I agree with you I always thought terry was overrated as a photog) the story of the decade is contained in miniature
I didn’t really mean to say the pictures were “cooler” bc he was outed as an abusive perv, at least not at that level of banal and voyeuristic meaning

i guess i get what you mean but im personally more of a radical minded person when it comes to artist's art who are outed to be weirdos in the sense of i dont even want to consume it anymore
it is a funny juxtaposition though as you described

I dig it
It’s a particular valence in this situation that makes it somewhat different imo tho bc it’s a photograph and it’s hard to say what consume means
It’s not like I spend my spare time looking through old terry Richardson shoots or even spent more than a couple seconds googling before making this thread
I just remembered it and how ubiquitous the pictures were + how even now so Many people would remember them + how the meaning has changed in a. Way that reflects the culture changing over the decade
It’s less of a value judgment of him or even the art and more an objective assessment of its cultural impact
But again, I respect your stance
