Marvin Gaye What's Going On - from Mono to Atmos (this is a guided walkthrough of what Atmos changes
Apple Music Spatial Audio Section - Playlists, Albums, Singles mixed specially for Dolby Atmos
There are two new things being added to Apple Music. The first is lossless audio quality. This allows for people with certain devices to stream Apple Music's library in full lossless quality. For 99% of people this is meaningless as people cannot tell the difference between regular quality and lossless. The other thing being added is Dolby Atmos audio. This requires the song or album to be mixed specifically with Dolby Atmos. There's a library of around 500-1000 songs available that have been updated with Dolby Atmos support.
Dolby Atmos® is an innovative audio technology that envelops you in an immersive listening experience. While music mixed in stereo is limited to left and right channels, music created in Dolby Atmos is freed from channels, allowing artists to place individual sounds all around you. Artists can also decide the volume, size, and vibrancy of each instrument to reveal nuanced details in the music.
All Apple Music subscribers using the latest version of Apple Music on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV7 can listen to thousands of Dolby Atmos music tracks using any headphones. When you listen with compatible Apple or Beats headphones,8 Dolby Atmos music plays back automatically when available for a song. For other headphones, go to Settings > Music > Audio and set Dolby Atmos to Always On. You can also hear Dolby Atmos music using the built‑in speakers on a compatible iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, or HomePod,9 or by connecting your Apple TV 4K to a compatible TV or audiovisual receiver. Information is limited but it seems like that AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have Atmos music work better thanks to their gyroscope and spatial features.
It will work in full with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. It will also work (potentially in a limited capacity) with AirPods, Beats X, Beats Solo3, Beats Studio 3, PowerBeats 3, Beats Flex, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro. It also works with built in speakers on the newer iPhone and iPads
On the now playing screen you will see a Dolby Atmos logo. this means it's working.
Basically if you're on other headphones the music benefits from a mix designed in Dolby Atmos and then mixed down to stereo
so some songs will sound better cause the mixing will be much better especially in terms of panning
if you have AirPods Pro/max then you need to be on iOS 15 to access spatial audio. This tracks to your head position basically simulating surround sound and using the Dolby Atmos mixes in that framework
Ain’t that made specifically for surround sound systems, thought for headphones and regular speakers the lossless option would be preferred
It’s only working if it looks like this:
this what your settings/music should look like

I think it might be headphone specific
Apple can’t stop winning
Seriously
This is a game changer
I'll look into it, seems really interesting. I wonder what dsp stuff is going on to make it work
Can someone confirm if this works on OG Airpods (not the Pros) please
it says it does, but i don’t have it in my settings yet. i dont have my iphone on ios14.6 yet tho, gonna update rn
I don’t have AM to test but this does seem legitimately innovative
Audio fidelity and dimensionality can only go so far on earphones so I’m curious
not showing up yet for my phone
but IN
same. im tryna go to sleep but i need to check this out
In order for it to be the future it has to be easy enough for independent artists to make a mix like that
Holy s*** Gotta Have It sounds incredible can confirm it works on OG Airpods
right!!!
will this work on my bose headphones? i know the spatial part wont but the rest?

The spatial part is part of the Atmos so I think it won’t
