honestly sounds like your VPN crashed or stopped really working

it definitely can look like it's on but the network adapter isn't really doing anything

you really should be using some kind of VPN kill switch

I use Web UI based Transmission and I run it in its own jail on FreeBSD then I have a script that makes sure all Network traffic is going thru the VPN provider if it breaks for some reason the jail loses network connection

there are easier kill switches you can use though

also you could use a proxy also

it won't be as secure or fast but it will always hide your IP if it's configured right

What's it like running it in a jail? Can you set up your VPN to switch IPs every few hours?

I kinda need to rethink my workflow since I download to an external but Radarr & Sonarr are in jails so they can't handle automatic renaming/moving. Constant writing to a drive kinda worries me

I get a new IP everyday, but you could set it up every few hours.

with a cron job the number is in minutes

/120 * * * service openvpn restart

It works great but I've actually been slowly moving stuff into Docker because I find that backups work better and that it's easier to set stuff up. Next time it breaks I think I'll use this Docker template.

It has been working though for a few years now so it's pretty stable tbh. At one point it did break and I had to recreate it because the backup had issues.
