Falls off a cliff after the first half
Most disappointing film in recent memory imo
Damn :/
I just kept thinking ''so where's the funny?'', the whole first segment with the guy and his influencer gf had so many eye roll moments in it and wasn't engaging at all
Then the 2nd part on the boat is the best, but it isn't anything great. Some standout moments with like the Russian character who gets on the mic and delivers this supervillain speech had me in tears, but that's the sole moment in the film that had me laughing out loud and that character in general saved the film somewhat. Gave it a 3/5 but i feel like it should be lower if im completely honest
The social commentary was really bad, i expected much more from Östlund in that department

Russian dude and woody killed it. Wish there was more woody
I thought comedies were supposed to be funny…?
Lmao that bad for you?

A f***ing D-tier film school project won the Palme D’Or

Come on now, this definitely isn’t a d-tier film school project.
What a fun movie
It’s very broad and on the nose
Which ain’t really my preferred mode
But for two and a half hours, it sort of breezes by
Hmmm
Gotta see how it sits with me

Don’t Look Up needs *way*more respect if this won the Palme D’Or
Surely this wasn't the best film at cannes
decision to leave was robbed, I still enjoyed this tho
I feel like this is a "you get it or you don't" type of movie. (which admittedly sounds douchebaggy to even say.)
But I liked it a lot. Great movie.

Feels like some got heavy handed social commentary they would have done without while others went along for the ride

Yeah. Had a whole paragraph about it being heavy-handed in that little mini review of mine that I took out before hitting post. I was worried with Woody and the guy trading quotes and then the "pay your taxes" s***. But they moved on pretty quickly. I feel like this is commentary that worked without being offensive/shoved down your throat.
The intro was really good though. Had me thinking I was in for a classic
Where did it fall off for you?

Things started to feel off at the elevator scene. Movie had a weak main character imo
Here’s what I’ve realized about satire.
Some satire is not meant to be subtle in the same way a slice of life drama is. Sometimes you have to go broad in order to skewer a broad system or set of ideas. I think this film suffers from coming out at a time when we’re all tired of movies taking shots at the rich. And I think it gets a little too neat and tidy, but as a grand, funny, thesis on capitalism, it works for me. 🤷♂️
